GPD Win (x86 Computer / Palmtop)

I told my girlfriend I resisted the impulse, and she gave me the money and forced me to do it.

There's a press release from some group or another for a "Miraculous New Battery Technology Breakthrough That Will Change The World!!!" at least once a month. For over a decade, none have panned out. Either they have a crippling weakness compared to lithium o are impossible to mass-produce economically. Some have incredibly short lifespans (reduced capacity after only a handful of charges), and some only work at very high or very low temperatures.

If there were any real promise in that month-old press release, everybody would already be talking about it. I refuse to get excited about or even consider the possibility of better-than-lithium batteries until they're actually in commercial production. Until somebody builds a factory, it's all just empty hype.

It seems GPD have reopened the Indiegogo campaign using Indiegogo's In Demand feature.

So if you missed out and want to back the GPD WIN, you now can agian

Also, Here's a nice pic I found of the in progress prototype with keyboard labelled, not in color yet, ie the function keys should be blue etc.

That is accurate for me, as I prefer and usually wear big heavy work boots.

And more info and pics (scroll down a bit):
[doublepost=1461894167,1461894085][/doublepost]WTF? Ok, how do I make a link stay a link?

Don't know, but maybe you could just put it in a spoiler tag
I considered it earlier, and decided against it because it would make more work for those that might be interested (just like breaking the link). I don't think anyone here is that technically challenged, so I did it.

It was funny when I first came across that idea, and I thought it might be fun and funny for others based on how much we discuss keyboards on little handheld gaming computers.

So I was reading up on the comments of the Indiegogo page, and apparently Atom SoCs are being phased out by Intel. They're still going to support Cherry Trail Atoms, though there won't be a new Atom for the GPD Win 2 or at all (unless we use the Cherry Trail x7, that is)...

Apparently GPD will be ready to show their working prototype at the end of the month or early next month. That's the latest news from them

Pyra had a prototype long before pre-orders were available. B-]
Pyra is not being built by a proven handheld company with a reasonable expectation of delivering the product. Pyra would not have done very well if they did not show that they were very nearly ready to ship a product before asking for orders. Particularly after the Pandora fiasco.

I would disagree with that. Keep in mind that the makers of the Pandora each had their own companies, and while one of those companies has since folded, EvilDragon and OpenPandora GmbH now has a proven track record, having successfully brought the Pandora back into production and delivering every pre-order he had taken. (All remaining unfulfilled Pandora orders were taken by the British company that folded)
