GPD MicroPC


That Touchpad would be quite nice for edge-scrolling. Although on the Pyra we have a whole Nub for that ;)
 
The Pyra has dedicated pg up and pg down buttons and a dpad for fine control. If the nubs are set up the same as on the Pandora, they won't have scrolling on them, but I've not heard anyone discussing how they should work for a good few years now, so I'm not sure what they're actually using on prototypes right now.

I can use the right nub to scroll vertically on my prototype.
Unfortunately it's binary for now. So it always scrolls at the same speed.
 
Back on the topic of this GPD device for systems admins...

What would REALLY make this the cat's meow for systems admin is if a person could throw a switch on it to throw it in reverse.

Flip a switch and the HDMI out becomes an HDMI in and one of the USB ports becomes a hub input with the keyboard & trackpad as HIDs. The other USB ports would then be ports off the hub back to the host computer.
 
I guess you could do that with a cheap monitor (probably took out of the case) glued to a usb keyboard. I'd have thought having an independent os running on the laptop part and showing you the server state over a serial link in a window while still being able to look up wikipedia and internet search other stuff would be preferable.
 
GPD have put two screw holes on the bottom of the MicroPC so that pople can attach 3rd party peripherals or generally use as they please

Oh, that's quite nice. But what do you do to double click then?

The same I did with the Pandora.
Moving the right nub twice to the left.
I never used the other option (was it nub up?)
But as you can click the nubs you can use one for scrolling in both directions and clicking for mouse click.
Or whatever you like. Click one Nub does double click for example.
It's the software I think that does not support it yet.
But I don't mind, as my Nubs are probably broken and the click might not be recognized anyway.

Not yet, although I could ask I suppose.

Basically speaking though, it will be pretty similar in dimensions to the WIN 2

I have now got the dimensions from GPD. The MIcroPC dimesions are: 153×113×23.5mm. The GPD WIN 2 dimensions for reference are 162×99×25mm
 
Blimey, that's smaller than I expected given the apparently spaciousness of the ports at the back, although they benefit from the entire height of the unit including the hinge.

Have they announced what the screen diagonal is? I envisaged it as only being slightly smaller than my 7 inch eeepc display, but if the screen was that size it'd just fit inside those dimensions but not leave any room for a hinge. Assuming it is a 16:9 display, that would mean if the screen had no border at all, it would cover a height of 86mm and have a diagonal of a comfortable 6.5inches, but given it has a noticeable border all around if I allow a border of 10mm on each side and 5 mm top and bottom, it gives a diagonal of 6 inches pretty much dead.

And now I re-read your opening post, you do say in the second paragraph that it'll have a 6 inch screen. Oh well, at least that seems to tally with the dimensions you've given.
 
I can't really tell from the videos but is the keyboard meant for thumb typing? Are the buttons "clicky"/need more force to prevent accidental presses as your move your thumb around? The flatness of and no gap between the keys seems like it may be difficult to feel if you're fully on the key before pressing though.

Also, there an option for 8 GB RAM or is 4 GB the only option? I'm not sure about the 4 GB of RAM.

I really like the built-in RS-232 and GbE ports. I often use those as management interfaces to lab equipment and FPGA/ARM boards.

There's a lot of pressure form people for them to make a 8GB model. So we will see if that actually happens. At the moment there are no plans for it

The device is designed for thumb typing and has much larger keys than the WIN2

The keys themselves I presume will be clicky like the WIN2. They are also slanted from top to bottom with bevels on the sides and tops to give them gaps betyween each key
