PC games recommendations 2019

I'm curious about Stellar myself too as I used to love playing Masters of Orion (1 and 2).

It was more than I would usually pay for a Steam game, but I got the Witcher 3 for 10 (GBP), mostly as I wanted something to try my newish "Steam machine" and it has quite a few platinum ratings on ProtonDB. Fortunately it does indeed work really well for me and the most popular community mapping works extremely well with the steam controller.

It's hard to recommend any games when you didn't list any genres you like.
My current "playlist" consists of:
  • Fantasy Strike
    • 1v1 fighter with simpler controls than say Street Fighter
  • Into The Breach
    • Turn based strategy, related games I'd recommend would be:
    • FTL
    • Convoy
  • Ganbare Super Strikers
    • Turn based soccer game
    • I got this off itch.io, but they give you a steam key too
  • Hitman Go
    • Puzzle game

Well, I think I'm fine with missing the Steam summer sale now, because I'm still set to go computer shopping Friday the 12th, as far as I know. My finance person said they were waiting on an email from someone higher up to confirm the 12th as the date, so getting in even sooner seems unlikely.

I've got a bunch of games in my "extras" folder. When you've finally nailed down and gotten what you want let me know, I'll send some your way.

Well, um, bad news, guys. I might not be getting a computer after all. It's a long story.

Also, I might take a break from these forums for some time. Don't worry too much about me, I've made it through stuff like this before.

I got into an argument yesterday with the person who's taking me computer shopping, and it ended with me telling them not to get me a computer if it was going to be so much trouble. It turns out today though that they say I can still get a computer, so that's a relief.

At this point I'm thinking I can't get a Nitro 5 or anything with dedicated graphics though, but hopefully I can still get something with good build quality.

Is that your way of telling me to stay on topic, Wally? Don't worry, this'll all be over on the 12th. They're really adamant about that date, a budget in the $500s, and buying in person, so that's why I think I'm screwed out of a Nitro 5.

I'm looking at the Dell Inspiron 15 5584 now. 8th gen i5 CPU, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD, all for $529 at Office Depot. No graphics card, but what can I do? If I'm lucky, I might be able to talk them into the i7 version for $599.

A coffee lake i5 should still get you vulkan 1.1 graphics and D32 12. I guess it might not be performant enough to run the latest mainstream games, but there's still a vast library of stuff out there that should run okay on that.

And when another $100 comes your way in a few months you can invest in a reasonable video card: won't be great but it'll beat the onboard for sure.

That Dell Inspiron 15 5584 is a laptop... No option to replace the video card on that.
@JDTAY ... You're either needing a laptop or under $550 including desktop, monitor, keyboard, mouse then right? And it has to be purchased at Best Buy? Crazy enough, you can't buy a decent new monitor, keyboard and mouse and still have enough for a decent desktop machine. So, laptop it will likely be.

Vega 8 isn't -awesome- but would be somewhat game-able... $595. Stretches the budget a bit...

Touchscreen could be do without, but with a 128GB SSD it will be fast to boot.

The options at BestBuy go downhill fast from there.

Oh what!? Oof, I messed up, sorry. I'll just add my voice against a laptop but I'm guessing the deal is already as good as done.
Agreed - a tower computer would give him the flexibility and modular build that so many of us prefer. But, I checked on BestBuy's site and could not figure out any way he could get the monitor, keyboard, mouse and the tower within his budget. There are many of us who could have helped him find a second hand retired business computer and a 2 year old graphics card, but he would still need the peripherals. And since he's at the mercy of someone else's dictates - not much any of us could/can do for it.

I'm posting this from my Dell Inspiron 15 5584. Awwww yeah. As far as computers with integrated graphics go, it's a pretty good one.

As for games, I can't get into my Steam account because I lost my tablet that had Steam Guard on it, and I also can't get into GOG, because I lost my old email address, and it sent a security code there because I logged in from a new device. Waiting for support to get back to me on both.

Update: Back into Steam. Still not back into GOG yet.

Update 2: Back into GOG now too.

Guys, help me out. I'm considering buying Fanatical's Mystery Goldrush Bundle. I can get from one to ten mystery Steam games. If I get one, I only lose a dollar. If I get ten, I lose ten dollars, but the tenth game is guaranteed to be a diamond tier game. If I get nine, I only lose six and a half dollars, but I'm not guaranteed a diamond tier game.

Someone tell me what the optimum number of games is and why. My inner Wally is telling me zero, but my inner JDTAY doesn't understand why.

Update: Yeah, I bought it. My diamond tier game was Redout: Enhanced Edition. Of my other nine games, one was Batman: Arkham Asylum GOTY Edition, and eight were things that are almost, but not entirely, unlike games. At least I didn't get anything I already had. *shrug*

So, Stellaris went back on sale today as part of Steam's Space Exploration Sale. I picked it up, not knowing if I could even run it, 'cause hey, Steam has refunds for situations like that, right?

Turns out I can run it. I set all the graphics to low though, so I could free up power for speeding up gameplay. That said, I haven't even tried speeding up gameplay beyond normal speed yet, because I'm still learning how to play, in single player mode.

My initial impression is that it takes a long time to do anything in Stellaris if you're playing on normal speed with constant pausing like I am. Ninety minutes and I haven't met another intelligent species yet. I did claim four or five stars and land my first colony ship on a habitable world. They haven't even finished setting up my first colony yet. Hopefully the game pace improves when I learn to do everything and stop pausing all the time.

Oh man, Steam hasn't been advertising their weekly sales on the front page at all today. Usually when they're like that, it's a sign of a huge sale the next day. They have done "back to school" sales before. I'm getting all paranoid thinking about it.

I actually have been playing games recently. Mostly just Cursed Treasure 2 though. Not sure if that should count, but then again, I'm not sure if most of the stuff my laptop can handle should count. I mean, it is a game on Steam; so what if it's the sequel to a Flash game?
