2GB and 4GB

If I remember correclty (someone more knowledgeable than me could confirm/correct), there are no chip less.
The 4GB unit has 4x8Gb modules, and the 2GB unit has 4x4Gb modules.
THAT is the information we actually need here.
And no question was if it is 2*1gb or 1*2gb in the 2gb config.

4*8gb... hellooooo future man. Do you come from 2040?

Hmm, that's odd. When numbers came back to the shop after the redesign, it seemed to be using 3000 as the base number for all parts. But now that's changed when I look at it now. I think they're using 2000 as the base number, because I remember one of the numbers had gone negative before I stopped doing the weekly numbers (probably two people who ordered a 2GB EU cellular version by accident cancelled a US cellular unit, compounding the error).

Edit: In reply to @HelenF's post, last on the previous page.

So that would be 1043 Pyras with 4GB and 22 with 2GB? That doesn't sound good!

Yep that's about the shape of it that I remember. The vast vast majority of those 2GB orders got made in the first few hours of the shop opening before it became clear that most people were going for 4GB versions.

@EvilDragon
  • Is it true there are only 22 of the 2GB orders?
  • Have the 2GB CPU boards been made yet?
  • If not, are you really going to make them?
  • If I requested to change my order at this late stage, would you send me to the back of the queue?

Yes, only 22 2GB orders.
We probably will NOT create them, instead, these will be updated for free to 4GB versions.
Thanks for clearing that up! Though it would be fair for me to pay the extra since I was regretting my choice anyway. Some of the other 21 might think the same.

Unless you REALLY want a 2GB one, as we have some prototype PCBs lying around :)
Time to cancel my 4GB Pyra pre-order and pre-order a 2GB Pyra instead! And no need to worry, I do not REALLY want a 2GB Pyra. I am so nice that I'll settle for a 4GB Pyra.

Or you could just add mem=2048M to the kernel command line for those units xD
You should work for Microsoft.

Well, the only 2GB board will reportedly be the prototype boards, so yes, if anyone cares to actually collect prototypes of a niche device.
Maybe in some dystopian, Pullman-esque or Reeve-ian future?

I wonder if one of the memory controllers and it's associated ram could be disabled. Of course that would half the memory bandwidth.
