Hello everyone,
it's finally time to reveal my latest creation.
I planned to show it during the Gamescom but as it's all digitally now I'll show it here for you.

This time it's that innocent looking little thing...

01.jpg

02.jpg

.... it's a long lasting dream of mine that finally became a reality.

03.jpg

... it has a lot of hidden secrets for you ;)

Guess what is at its heart...
04.jpg

...correct: a docked Nintendo Switch

05.jpg

... are two beautiful speakers:

06.jpg

... there are 4 Pro-controller waiting to be used.

07.jpg

... there is room for up to 30 games or SD-cards.

08.jpg

... we have 2x185 watt hours battery packs.
They last for up to 10 hours of docked gaming.
And their output specs is the best I've seen so far:

09.jpg

10.jpg

... we have the tools to hack our Switch.

11.jpg

... the HDMI, USB-C and headphone jack are connected via a female-female adapter.
That way it's easy to power the Switch via an external power supply and via the included batteries.
Also the screen can be used with any device and the switch can be connected to an external TV.

As a bonus it's designed so that the screen can easily be removed via velcro:

12.jpg

... can use the USB to Ethernet adapter.

Guess what it's second heart is ;)

13.jpg

... a Pyra sitting right below the Switch :) :)

Let's have a look at the remaining two copartments in the middle:

14.jpg
15.jpg

We have power supply for those devices that need them:
- Switch
- Battery
- Screen
So we can play even when the battery is empty.

There is a USB cable with Micro and UCB-C connector, two USB power supplys with two USB-ports each and a 1 meter HDMI extension cable-

16.jpg
17.jpg

... that folds up to a keyboard with trackpad.
It supports both, Bluetooth and micro USB-connection.

18.jpg

... and headphones we can plug into our female connector.

19.jpg
20.jpg

... we have custom made NFC cards to bring my amiibo collection with me (DLC still missing).

21.jpg

... it contains the remote for the screen, an USB A to A extension cable and a pair of JoyCon.

Now we're done, right?
No, of course not.
It's nice and so, but at the moment it feels like a Pandora with only 2 shoulder buttons, if you know what I mean :p
There needs to be something special.

22.jpg
23.jpg

24.jpg

If we combine it all, we can overcome the greatest threat a gamer has:

... sunlight!

25.jpg

26.jpg

So we need to build a little tent to be safe.

Google Stadia tells me: "Play where you want and how you want".
I laugh at them. They have no Idea what that really means.

WAIT.
There is still something important missing.
We can play wherever we want, but we need to get there.

27.jpg

... I created a mount for it.

28.jpg

... me and my baby :p

WAIT !!!
HOLD ON !!!

I said: "Play where you want and how you want"

Dead serious. Wherever you want!!!

29.jpg

30.jpg

31.jpg

32.jpg

It's simply beautifully.

34.jpg

I used it as an external screen and keyboard for a Raspberry Pi :p.
The possibilities are endless.

It's much more than a gimmick for me.
As I travel a a lot it is something I use in my everyday life and don't want to miss it any more :)

If that thing get's a reality then I'll add it.
It will allow me to play all PC games at low resolution (they still look better than Switch ports), emulate consoles up to WiiU, PS2/3 and much more.
With the Aya Neo I'll hold the ultimate gaming station in my hands :)

Whooaaaaaaa, that's awesome, how long did it take for you to make all that? So beautiful, would pay heaps of money for a set up like yours <3

2 weeks or so.

I was thinking about making a Kickstarter for it if there is enough interest.

I might want to remove the Amiibo cards as I don't use them and add a proper mouse instead.

I also plan to make a second one without the Switch.
Only Pyra and maybe Aya Neo.
It'll have a big keyboard, HDD slots, optical drive and stuff.
It'll be Pyra centered (and Aya maybe) with a dock, USB hub and things like that.
And it'll contain tons of adapters and stuff.
It'll be the swiss army knife of a Nerd then ;)

This is a awesome suitcase built, it’s a bit sad you can’t show it on Gamescom ..

But ditnt put it the whole handheld principle ad adsurdum??

And I thought my Electronics EDC whit Pandora and Kindle in my Pocket was strange

Gesendet von iPhone mit Tapatalk Pro

At the airport: "We have to inspect your suitcase"

You are crazy :D
It is cool and all, but yeah, taking all those portable things and put them all in a bigger portable dock station, pretty much invalidate the small factor of those devices

Well, I travel to different places at the moment. My parent's house, my students flat, and my girlfriend's house.
The big advantage is that I have one place where I can put all my stuff.
It's a matter of seconds now to be ready to travel.

An other thing where it is useful is events like Gamescom.
All the years we have been there we never could play Smash properly.
There was always one guy who forgot his Switch/3DS or whatever.
Now that won't happen again.

It's not meant ultra portability. And it's not meant to be carried around a lot.
It's great if I'm on holidays or drive from one location to the next.
I like to have the option to sit outside and play there.
It's more mobile than a TV.
And I can play much longer than on a Gamimg Laptop.

It's there for portability, but for an other sort of portability than thy Pyra or switch is.
It's also a matter of independency and utility.
I can use the screen for other devices and can play comfortably on any bed ;)

I envy your determination anyway, if I had in mind to do something like that, I could had developed on sheet for 6 months just to scratch everything to do nothing in the end. :$

how long did it take for you to make all that?

To answer that question correctly it took me about 7 years.
I wanted such a thing since I had a Pandora.
But it was not the time for it and I did never find a screen that would fit.
It was a lucky coincidence that I was motivated after the last Gamescom and I found all the tings I needed on the Internet.

Wow, that's like, DNF numbers! Impressive
How about...overall cost?

Suitcase:

Battery: 2x200€
Screen: 300€
Suitcase: 40€
Foam: 20€
Speakers: 20€

Then you have to add:

Switch: 300€
Controllers: 4x 50€
Other small parts: 50€

The food thing is if I want to make a second suitcase I can easily reuse the batteries and the screen.
So every additional unit is basically just the cost for the suitcase and foam.
