Just Tried Out The 3Ds

Turns out I in fact have no self control, and thus I bought one after all. It's arrived today; not used it yet though as I'm still at work.
Exactly what I did with my Caanoo! Once I knew my package came, I ran home, teared it open, and tried to charge it as quickly as possible. I had my SD card ready a month in advance. :D

Congrats GoityBaron.

I, myself have been playing mine for exactly month now...

Sony, no picture of 3ds next to pandora, psp and dsi?
What? He should take a picture of a 3DS next to a Pandora, Caanoo, GP32, PSP, DS, DS Lite, DSi, Atari Lynx model 1, Atari Lynx model 2, Game Gear, Game Boy, Game Boy Pocket, Game Boy Col... wait, I think I'm overdoing it.

I have to say I hate the look of the blue 3DS. It is like Nintendo screwed up and mixed up the colors and assembled the wrong parts with each other.

I will be getting black for sure.

Also I wonder why they are running a 200 MHz GPU at only 133 MHz?

It's battery concerns, no doubt.

On other news, it took me about 3 hours to get used to the 3d effect. Until that time passed, it filled me with deep horror. Remember to keep your 3d slider low, people!

Most of my family actually screamed in horror at the 3d screen, as it made their "eyes go funny", so I'm not sure how much of an instant draw it will be.

Also, Super Monkey Ball 3D is super short. The 3DS has no games!!!

Really? I've never seen that happen before 0_o

Anyway, what is up with those 3D televisions that they have on display in Electronics stores? I put on the 3D glasses that they put in front of them (tethered to something) and NOTHING happens! What the hell? Is it just me? My eyesight isn't that great, and I had to remove my real glasses to use them, but I tried using both and still not result.

What games do you all recommend? I only have Super Monkey Ball so far, and as I said above, it's probably too short to buy at full price. It's very competent technically though, with stunning 3d effects, though obviously the motion controls (optional) conflict with the 3d. There's also a kart racer in with it, which is a bit too hard :S. Also what seems to be a competent Smash Bros clone that I haven't looked at much yet.

I'd imagine the Monkey Ball Kartz and Smash Bros clones are awesome multiplayer though, but I don't know of anyone else who owns a 3ds.

Is there On-line multi-player? On-line multi-player is always fun. :D I used to play COD-WaW DS for seriously unhealthy amounts of time, and it completely wore out and scratched my DS Lite's screen. I'd go with the SB clone is it has On-line multi-player.

Nah, no online multiplayer for Monkey Ball unfortunately... that would make it awesome.

Three different modes it cool, it's just that all of them seem a bit limited.

I almost didn't buy one due to the crappy lineup for the next few months, but I don't regret it. I may get Rayman, as I've never played it before. None of the other games excite me, as I don't really like fighters (SSF4) and I wouldn't get enough out of Ridge Racer.

Is it possible that you have no 3D vision? Apparently some people's brains only process the images from one eye if both eyes are open, and they never find out until they go to a 3D movie or something and can't see the 3D.

Can you see the 3D in this fine animation by crossing your eyes?

Regarding the 3DS... I'd love to get one, as the idea is really interesting to me; I love 3D displays. But having so recently gotten the Pandora, I just don't have time for another handheld right now. Maybe in a year or two when the price drops.

Unfortunately, I'm not talented in going "cross-eyed".

The 3DS seems to work fine. Maybe it's my myopia. My left eye is far more unfocused than my right eye, and anything farther than an arms length (okay, well... maybe up to my wrist) is unreadable with that eye, and my eyes are getting worse, so I can't read far-away signs at supermarkets anymore with my current glasses...

I got a 3DS on Friday (UK launch day), with five games - RidgeRacer (pretty poor - not impressed with the 3D at all; it's like a cardboard cutout car stuck onto a shonky backround - the game is typical RR though, so it's not all bad), PilotWings (short but good use of 3D for the most part - the initial sign-in section is worryingly poor though), Samurai Warriors (love Dynasty Warriors so this is a no brainer - truly excellent use of 3D), Nintendogs (this is for my wife, I haven't played it, but the 3D looks superb), Ghost Recon (love TBS - the 3D is unnecessary, but for the most part good. Some is ropey though).

So overall the 3D effect is hit and miss in the titles I own, but the games themselves are all pretty good. After an update I got a short 3D video which actually looks better when you pause it. The whole video looks OK when viewing properly, but really stands out (literally) when paused - especially certain clips, like water pouring onto hands.

I have the 3D slider set to less than 40% and it's fine. Anything over 70% and my eyes start melting. It's a really weird feeling.

The AR cards/games are a 5 minute wonder - wonder why they bothered... I can see it's potential uses though.

The camera is pretty bad, even worse in poor lighting conditions. You really need bright conditions to see it at its best.

The console itself is pretty sweet though - very comfy, even with large hands. The circle pad works a treat. I agree that the blue 3DS looks pants - I went for the black too.

Battery life is $#!+. And the slow start up (a few seconds of black screen) is pretty poor.

But seeing everyone react when they see it is brilliant :)

More than likely the batteries in the glasses are dead. Second possibility is that you didn't realise that you had to push a pin head sized button to turn them on, or they might just be busted.

Almost all of those displays I tried didn't work either.

Other topic with the 3DS, I just cranked the 3D to max as soon as I got it. It didn't really bother me.

I had the 3D slider cranked up all the way, and I was fine. I'm started to get frustrated with limited depth perception in Ape Escape for PS/PSP. Seems like some of those games may have been rushed for launch. The AR cards remind me of Invizimals (is that how you spell it?) for the PSP. Personally, I'd rather pack around a DSLR camera if I wanted to take pictures. I'm eager to buy a 3DS, but I have so many other things to buy first (a DC, new headphones, a new computer) and I'd rather wait for a lite version to come out. I have to agree that the sandwich layout seems odd. It would have been more acceptable if they used only two shades instead of three, and used a deeper blue.

Gee thanks, you linked to a VIRUS!

I had to quickly shut the page down before it loaded my computer full of spyware and trojans

The heck? I linked to Newgrounds. It's a very large and well-established website, and I have been going there for years and have never gotten a virus...

EDIT: Hmm, apparently other people have reported it today, and it may have been caused by a pop-up ad (link goes to NG forums).

However, http://www.urlvoid.com/ currently rates Newgrounds.com "clean".
