VLC is the best media player available. It plays *everything* from *anywhere*. I mean, from disc, from HDD, from streaming media... it'll even stream media for you.

Use mplayer and you'll never need separate codecs. And yeah, I know I'm suggesting to eliminate the problem rather than solving it, but whatever works...

i use quicktime alternative and real alternative with media player classic to playback realmedia files (and quicktime files) have you tried that ? i wouldnt install another real media product, i feel the same way about adobe's bloatware (can use foxit reader for pdf's and GIMP for picuture editing)

www.doom9.com for the lazy ones among us: .

Then try to find the Gordian Knot Codec Pack

Enjoy all the codecs you'll ever need :)

that ones pretty good,

id just use VLC (video lan client) though its much simpler and has everything built in http://www.videolan.org/

the k-lite codec pack is not recommended, use the CCCP instead. I preferred just to use WMPC when I used windows, simple and did everything needed, as long as you have codecs installed such as the ones from CCCP. VLC and mplayer are also good clients but I've never used VLC much.
