Gamescom is a physical event again this year. There is still an online part but I'll be attending on-site again and I assume @ED will be there again to in the retro-section (hall 10).

Live-stream:

Photo's and updates will be done tomorrow™.

Whos up for a meetup? Still looking to places to go to with that 9€ ticket.

Today I visited the Gamescom. I indeed spotted the DragonBox Shop and it's crew.
The lay-out of the shop was a bit different compared to previous (physical) events, but still it was located in the retro-section hall 10.2 (top floor).

When entering hall 10.1 you are greeted with the informative sign that you've entered the hall, very helpful.

The shop itself has retro consoles and the big NES controller. It also featured ED and the best collection of handhelds I've seen at the Gamescom.
Look at those nice new green shirts.

Look at those handhelds, including the GPD2 Win Max (that one yours @Askarus ?).

(these are for some reason more bright)

the shop stops at this big screen, the items on the left aren't part of the shop anymore I was told by Askarus.

The Retro section in Hall 10.2:
IMG_20220824_163949.jpg

You see a lot of actually playable systems in the retro area compared to the announcement of new games which usually have a large waiting line or only a video.

And it can be new games for old systems also.
IMG_20220824_172659.jpg

And you also see nice non-playable objects in this section.

This year I also spotted a stand (not in hall 10.2, I think it was 10.1 at least lower floor) which was selling refurbished controllers and Nintendo handhelds (original gameboy till DSi). No photo of that booth though.

Hey guys, which is more hype, Everywhere or Killer Klowns From Outer Space: The Game?
Not factual but according to Google Trends it's 'Everywhere': Source
(This difference could be caused by a delay in time of announcement)

(Red is 'Everywhere')

thanks for reporting! me wants a pic of ed's jura coffee machine to capture the good ole' spirit of last (physical) gamescoms.
and cheers to dr. wuro!

I don't have photo of a coffee machine, but there are a lot of non-digital games items on Gamescom.

You have some related items to gaming, like phones and displays.
IMG_20220824_144341.jpg
Like a phone with a fold-able display by Samsung.
IMG_20220824_144348.jpg
And their displays:
IMG_20220824_144710.jpg

There was also a whole section on Lego things:
IMG_20220824_163502.jpg
I think the car was controlled via an app on the guys tablet.
IMG_20220824_163803.jpg
If you like cars and trucks, Lego has you covered.
IMG_20220824_163806.jpg

McDonalds was also there for some reason, and not with fries and burgers:
IMG_20220824_133912.jpg

I also spotted a 3D printer printing a chair (chair example on the left side of the photo):
IMG_20220824_161656.jpg

There are also some more physical games, like throwing a balls at projected items:
IMG_20220824_163332.jpg
Or a human tabletop football game:
IMG_20220824_163824.jpg

And at Gamescom you'll also spot some people dressed-up (Cosplay) as their favorite game character, or something else they like:
IMG_20220824_151935.jpg
I think this person was there for promotional reasons of a booth.

Or you spot a bunch of (not cosplay) robots:
IMG_20220824_154610.jpg

And sometimes there is a photo booth, still gaming related, but there was no actual game footage to be spotted there.
IMG_20220824_155011.jpg

And there are also companies there just trying to promote themselves or recruit new employees/students.
I don't know exactly what these people tried to do but they do appear to provide comfy chairs:

There are a lot of racing games but at Gamescom they might just drop some random car to attract attention or it's just promotional.
This year you could win a Toyota Aygo by performing some athletic track, I don't have any photos of that.

Not a real car, this is a deluxe gaming seat I guess.

Real cars:

A tuned car:

Porsche was there with an expensive do-it-yourself paint mobile:

That last photo freaked me out a little when I looked at the thumbnail. Looked like one car had landed in the middle of another car. Luckily, expanding it makes it clearer what I'm looking at, though exactly why I still can't say.

Depending on which hall you are in you'll see different types of booths. The big brands usually have their name clearly visible and might have multiple kiosks available to view of play games (sometimes hidden away from public, so there is a waiting line to get inside).

Microsoft with its Xbox section:
IMG_20220824_133438.jpgIMG_20220824_133452.jpg
Obviously you'll see actual xbox systems all over as other games run on the system to, but this one is specific for Xbox.
Some games that are displayed are already on sale and might be familiar to you already.

IMG_20220824_143944.jpgIMG_20220824_144032.jpg
Sega and one of its recently released games Two Point Campus.

Some of the Mega booths like 'Park Beyond' or SpongeBob's Cosmic Shake:
IMG_20220824_124025.jpgIMG_20220824_140739.jpg
The Park Beyond game was okay, I wasn't impressed by it but it would tickle the itch if you want to build a fun roller coaster.
There appeared to be too much emphasis on game characters and story, while that doesn't really matter when building stuff.

Lego also had a digital games area:
IMG_20220824_140815.jpg

Sometimes there is a medium booth, this one of 3DRealms was somewhat hidden but had enough computers to play games on.
IMG_20220824_140001.jpg
I played some Graven and Cultic. The new RTS (Tempest Rising) was not available, it had it's own part of a booth at a different publisher.

Goat Simulator 3
IMG_20220824_152049.jpgIMG_20220824_152159.jpg
If you can remember this game but can't remember part 2, it doesn't exist they skipped directly to 3.

Personally I like the Indie area most for new games (or there needs to be that one triple-A game your looking forward to), and the retro-section for playing older ones.

In the Indie-area I played Power Chord for sometime. I got at a boss battle where the boss had 99 'lives' and I think something like 60 armor. A normal enemy would have 8 or 12 points. So that was a real challenge.
The idea is that you follow a path and at each point you either gain or lose 'lives' (points) as a choice or during a battle. When out of points you obviously lose the game.
A battle is between your band and rival players. You have 'power'-points that can be spend to play cards from your deck. You can power-up your players, heal them, or attack using direct heavier attacks or have attacks that last multiple rounds doing small damage.
Each battle was okay until this boss-fight, which was way harder as each few rounds 2 new players would spawn next to the boss. So it felt like a chore to go to the process of defeating the boss (which probably is the point).

I guess ED's been preoccupied recently with this event, but has anyone that's visited perchance managed to glean any info re recent production? I don't know if any Pyrae have been built since the new cases have been delivered, nor even if the coatings applied well...

I hope ED will give a Gamescom and Pyra update. Today was the last day of Gamescom so maybe he’ll have time after he rested at home.
Or maybe others have that info already.
