okay i've still not decided which to buy <_<

a used gp32 unlit or a new psp..
does someone have both and can compare the screen? how is it playable outside for example?

i'm really having a dilemma overhere
i'm willing to pay for a gp32 also, but it probably won't last that long as it's probably more cheaply build than the psp :(

and another reason not to buy a gp32 could be that i'm not going to buy any games for the psp, just using it for emulation and the psp itself is sold without profit (maybe even a little debt for each psp sold) so sony will go backwards and that way i get some sort of 'revenge' for what they did to the dreamcast :( (even though they would hardly feel it in their wallet)

okay enough thinking/whining,
does someone have an opinion on this? please share :) thx..

considerin that for the price of a psp you could get a nice new blu with a fair few cards and stilll have money left,, emulation wise psp is moving very quickly but we are still ahead,, but we have a lovely 4:3 screen which beats there shitty widescreen

Well, You can`t really compare the two (I do own both, GP32 Blu + PSP), It`s like comparing a Ford Escort to a Mercedes Benz, They are in two different classes.

You are saying you want to get a NEW PSP that you will use for homebrew only ?, Considering the rate that sony are releasing firmware updates, What are your chances of getting a new PSP that will be supported by the homebrew scene ?.

You have to decide what your main use for you purchase will before deciding which to buy.

PSP: Commercial handheld, With a growing catalogue of games, Has a wealth of backing from loads of commercial developers. The console has been hacked, But has turned into a cat and mouse game with sony and the hacking/developing groups and no guarantee of how long the hackers/developers will keep playing this game.

GP32: Made open source years ago, Hardly any commercial support worth talking about. Almost four years old now but has a wealth of homebrew and emulators already and waiting to be used, With no fear from Gamepark wanting to lock the console. It has a great commuity supporting it, That are mostly willing to help if and when it is needed, And are a great bunch to be around, Sometimes. :p

</Don`s game show compares voice/> The decision is your`s.

Also I do not think that the latest BIOS has been hacked yet ? (has it, anyone?)
so you have to get the V1.0 BIOS

I think the Megadrive emu DrMD is stonking - I don't think the PSP can beat it yet.
and the Homebrew games are excellent here - see 'Warlock of Firetop' and the Minigames Project and Mafi Sushi Panic and ... and ...

conversly the 3d games on the PSP are beyond what the GP32 can do :(

for my 2 pence - buy second hand NLU and use it outdoors, or a BLU+ and use it indoors - then save up for the PSP - by the time you have the money the PSP scene should be better and the newer BIOS may be Hacked by then.

Or you may end up loving your GP32 so much you give up on the PSP :p

go for the gp32.

why?

its got cheap smart media cards as storage, you can develop for it. and even go commercial if youre good!

psp: umd? do you got alot of umd's there to sell commercial games or become one? is it cheap to buy a umd? does it got 2 speakers? does sony allow homebrew games for it and let you sell it?

choose wisely. gp32_console good luck!

??? where have you all been? Did you even see the multiple threads about 1.5 firmware being hacked and a new version coming out today?

1.5 is currently able to run homebrew and emulators.

id say only get a gp32 if you dont have much money. PSP is goin to be far better than gp32. Some emulators arent that great yet but soem are really good already. Only reason i would pick gp32 over PSP is if i was skint.

You could get an NLU real cheap. But it is unlit. If you con't play outside that would not be the best though. The PSP is unuseable outside, and the BLU only a bit better.

As far as cheaply built I wouldn't worry about that. The PSP is actually a bit more fragile with the tiny UMD and the plastic front of it scratches very easy. On the GP32 you can replace ths screen cover with glass making it scratch resistant.

The PSP is obviously more powerful though.

ok, I've got a GP32BLU, a Zodiac 2, and a PSP, I can compare all 3 for you...I like each for their own reasons.

The GP32 is the best for emulators & homebrew, it's an open platform that already supports MANY older systems through emulation and sooooo many great homebrew!
But the commercial scene is pretty much non-existant, so it's just the scene supporting it. The GP32 scene is very active and extra friendly, though. The GP32 only can use up to 128MB Smart Media Cards until someone hacks it so media playing can be done but with space limitations.

The Zodiac also supports emulation, but the analog stick can be a bit annoying when playing classic games meant for a digital stick or pad. The Zodiac, however has great media capabilities, you can have 4gigs of space on it for mp3s & movies, all at great resolutions & framerate. And there's a free downloadable movie player that's better than the ones for sale! There are some good commercial Zodiac and Palm games, usually not that expensive, either...

The PSP has the commercial aspect, with a decent library out now with many many more good ones coming... but they're trying to keep the homebrew community down. There are emulators and homebrew that are progressing fairly quickly, but with new games having forced firmware updates, you won't even be able to play the homebrew if you buy one of the specific games coming out with the firmware update.
I've not tried the multimedia capabilities of the PSP yet, the cards are just too expensive for me right now, and I'm WAY happy with my Zodiac's movie & mp3 playing!

Overall, it depends what you want the system for...

GP32 for emulation & homebrew games
Zodiac for multimedia
PSP for commercial games

My favorite for gaming is my GP32, and it probably will be for a long time because I love the classics! ;)

Choose Wisely! :D

Either the GP32 or a Zodiac, I'd say :) .

 Z fanboiz...
 Z haterz...

GP32: Currently unbeaten in emulating and homebrew. Lots and lots of nice free games.

Zodiac: Supernice screen, great for movies, SNES-emu is better than GP32 (but all other emus are better for the GP32), also great as MP3-player.

PSP: I don't know, since I haven't got one.

For me it would be very hard choosing between my GP32 and my Zodiac, but it simply depends on what you need. The Zodiac's got a lot coming up, while the GP32 is near perfection (on its performance level).

So, like BobBorakovitz said, Choose Wisely!

Here is my imput as I was in the same boat as you. I think the PSP is a great system and the screen is very cool. However, when you add in tax and a game etc you are looing at well over $350.00, plus if you are wanting it just for emulation anyways the GP32 has been out for some time and you can get good deals on eBay. I got my FLU for $130.00 with an offical carying case and 128 SMC card that I can overlock to 166MHZ. My advice would be don't get a non-lit unit because you will be disapointed as the screen is hard to see wiht out a light so get either a front light or back light. Emulation on the GP32 and is very good and the scene keeps getting better and you won't have to worry about hacking firmware etc. plus the GP32 is a novilty device and isn't mainstream as well. Don't get a Zodiac as then you will have to deal with a plam OS and it is way more expensive then both the GP32 or a PSP. It is up to you but you will not be disapointed with a GP32...

Must say, I bought a PSP for devving and emulation, after playing games like Wipeout and Ridge Racer, the current homebrew for it seems so poor in comparison, and makes me think "why am I using a device capable of this to emulate old 8-bit machines?". Maybe the homebrew will get much better when people learn more about the machine - I'd love a proper movie player.

So I now use my Zodiac for emulation and puzzle games (Astrawares game library is top notch), PSP for commercial 3d games, and the gp32 for nothing whatsoever (it's broken).

So, which would I buy if I was you? It would have to be the gp32.

Hey now i got a ford Escort 1987 it runs good and tops out at like 85mph  and i am now way off topic .

Buy a psp if u want good commercial games that u have to pay for. you know sony wont let it be cracked for ever other wise there goes their profits.

Buy a gp32 if you want good home brew and some grade A emus and hope fully with f-day comeing some more emus.
