For some strange reason, I changed the root password on my GP2X. I know what it is, but I now want to reset it back to what it was before, i.e. blank, empty, nothing. How do I do that?

try editing /etc/passwd so you have nothing in the password field. I don't know if the gp2x uses shadow passwords, but if it does, it'll probably be a single asterix, otherwise a hash value.

Sweet. Thanks.

/etc/passwd contained this line at the top

root:l.tXd184Ct5CQ:0:0:root:/root:/bin/sh

Just removed everything between the first two colons. Actually, there was a file called passwd.OLD in there as well, which was the same file before the root password was changed.

"locks are for honest people" :)

in windows NT/2k as well, it's the same deal...just blank out part of a file. ah well.
