No friggin' way!

Music should be free to download as a type of advertisment for the band ... if you want to support the artists, go see them play live.

Edit, and I'm no whore!

bwahahaha pay???? hellllll no

I bought 2pac's greatest hits though. Just because it was a great compilation that even had 'hit em up' on it. Plus, support, etc.

Otherwise no way jose

Well to put it bluntly i also whore all my mp3's

i think music should be free... if i like that band enough... ill buy, the cd go watch em...etc...

oh and lou' you propper are..... dirty girl.

That isn't true for all bands though telco. There are many bands i listen to that I can't see live because they don't tour the whole county. Also, there are many rap artists i listen too who's shows I could never go to because I would probably get shot. I still support them by buying there music. However i figure, if the artist is dead then there musics for the taking so i have no problem torrenting bob marley/tupac/mac dre/etc. albums. For my legal downloading i use napster.

Edit: I read the jobs article... what a fucking hypocrit.

... So instead, you support the fat, whitebread CEOs that push this fucking ghetto culture on the world's impressionable idiot youth, who in turn prevent you from seeing these 'bands' live .... brilliant. <_<

(no disrespect toward you, just pointing out social hypocrisy at its worst)

QFT!!!!

This is what has been preventing me from going to a ludacris or nas concert. I had the opportunity to go see Nas live for the most recent show he did in NY. I had to pass it up (it hurt, believe me) because I feared for my life :(

edit: way to over-analyze it lou :p. 99% black people + 1% white people probably isnt the best situation you can get yourself into

... I used to work for the NYCHA. I've been there. I was just pointing out the cause & effect behind gangsta rap.

You know, even Dr Dre started out as bubblegum. Gawd, I fucking hate MTV!!

Honestly, that crowd was probably mostly white. Middle class white kids are the largest purchasers of gangsta rap.

Edit: and I don't know about bubblegum, but Dr. Dre was vocally anti-marijuana until it was profitable to rap about how much weed he smoked. And Ice Cube was middle class, the son of two UCLA professors.

NO bloody way.... thats possibly the best find ever

* bows *

I actually was looking for the picture I saw of an early single he did as a solo rapper; he was dressed like a doctor, with a stethoscope, posing like a tool and grinning like Uncle Tom ...

Edit:  ... and here's a promo picture for said record:

Nearly all of my music is available free (mostly under Creative Commons, but there are some tracks from artists that they put up on their websites, for promotional stuff). I've got a few free as in "free" bits, and some I ripped from CDs.

I know you are joking, but...

I am a bad internet pirate who steals far too much. But I bet I am like most of us here in that I have a CD collection of around 10000 to 20000 cds, all bought and enjoyed.

The thing is, I am a musician. I have made several commercial cds, as a soloist. I have never made any money out of them, as they were all made abroad. I know that in Croatia they sell copies of a live concert I gave, etc. It doesn't really bother me, but it is theft. When I give a concert or an opera, I don't get anything from the amount of tickets they sell, just my prearranged fee.

The point is, music shouldn't be free. We who steal i should know that we are stealing and flagulate (?) ourselves daily cos of it. Pretending that we are justified in what we do is wrong. Do you believe that Musicians have a duty to give you stuff? Should the bitmap brothers work for our pleasure?

We, we are bad. But musicians deserve respect just as much as pornstars? I get a bit fed up when people pect me to have a proper job!!!
