Hi guys

I'd like to buy an inexpensive netbook to have as a dedicated emulation machine. I like the look of the Puppy Arcade Linux distro, and would like to get a nice clean system set up to break out for regular gaming sessions.

My original thoughts for a machine were all a bit Ben Heck, but after calming down a bit and lowering my aspiration of having a proper C64 keyboard fitted into a custom beige molded plastic shell I realised I might be getting a bit carried away.

I guess I could start with any machine, but I'd like something that looks and feels as 80s retro as possible. Simple and not overstyled. Possibly Sinclair or Commodore flavoured somehow. My first thought was of a Commodore machine I remembered seeing a while back:

Which I figured would be cheap as chips by now. But it seems that is a distant memory and unobtainable, if it ever even came out. Then I thought it must be easy to find a beige or brown laptop to recreate that 80s feel, something like this:

But it's not that easy to come by in the UK it seems and a bit pricey. Overall, it's a bit too 'trendy' I think.

It's strange that the 'retro' vibe is so prevalent in things like food mixers, radios etc where you can get a nostalgic themed modern appliance, but in technology, the past isn't so marketable.

Anybody got any suggestions of a suitable machine?
