Reverse engineering Dungeon Siege - GitHub

One of my favorite all time games! Awesome find!
Unfortunately, as far as I understand this (almost nothing), we won't have any port for this game.

Reverse engineering is only the first step, there is still a huge amount of work to port it.

Do you remember how much time Notaz needed to spend on his great diablo 2 port? Lots of. Even a really skilled person like him would have a really hard time to make it works on Pandora/Pyra.

As far as I can remember, I never seen someone play this game on Linux, I think there is a good reason.

Dungeon Siege plays perfectly fine using WINE on my Linux desktop. It may even be possible to play in on the Pyra using Exagear Desktop and WINE, I never got around to trying it on my devboard before it died. seeing how Never Winter Nights looked like it may be playable if 3D acceleration was working properly, I'd say DS may be in that realm.

Dungeon Siege 1 was awesome when it came out. Pretty straight forward for it's time, I really enjoyed that game, good graphics back then. Sadly, DS2 was compared weak, much more linear tube-levels and less interactions plus not so great map design, the addon for DS2 was even worse imho.

But would it be in good conditions on Pyra?

Don't know until I can try it. like I said in my previous post, Never Winter Nights was promising and it was released around the same time... so my hopes is that It could be.

An important difference to note: Neverwinter Nights has a native X86 Linux Open GL client, so it might be easier?

All of these wants depend a lot on getting a functional 3D driver with Open GL working though - and there isn't/won't be much for updates on that for quite a while.

yeah I was using Exagear + WINE for the NWN experiment, I would've liked to have tried the native linux client.

If your dev platform were working, I would be inclined to assist in getting a Linux client set up for you. Current status, though, with any luck I'll have a platform to try things on soonish or laterish. It is hard to be patient.

My guess is that it would perform pretty close to what you were seeing with Wine, maybe a bit better. I suspect that the lack of a 3D driver is the primary performance hit right now.

didn't Dungeon Siege get mixed reviews at best when it came out? i remember being disappointed with it. has it been re-evaluated in the intervening years?
Actually really liked it back in the day, the sequels were less than stellar though. It was a small LAN party favorite for a while, liked the feature you could just set your character to follow mode and still gain experience and such.

I finished it so many times with friends, brother, and by myself too, I had really good time. It's a really good game because it mixing really nicely Hack&Slash and RPG style, plus it's a quite huge game. If we could get the lan working, it would be awesome.

However Dungeon Siege 2 really disappointed me, even if the gfx are better, and the mouse gameplay is nice, every thing else is worse, this game is boring as hell.

Dungeon Siege 3 is not even a Dungeon Siege, it's just bad game that doesn't deserve this name.
