I've been scouring the web for a USB OTG Cable Adapter that will allow me to plug a USB1 mouse (or other USB1 peripheral) into the USB OTG port on the Pandora.

The best I've found so far seems to be this one via Amazon.

Has anyone got any ideas whether this one should work, or has anyone sourced a working alternative for a better price?

Edit : Talking of a better price how about this one form Deal Extreme? No mention of OTG but from the comments people have got it working with a Nokia N800 which IIRC uses USB OTG.

Edit 2 : Tried the deal extreme one and couldn't get it working, not sure if it was me not selecting the USB OTG mode correctly or if there is some kind of problem with the adapter. Best to assume for now that it does not work.

I'm not entirely sure, but I think N800 uses a different connector. You should check the Wiki info to determin the right one.

Cheers Mali, had a 'man look' on the Wiki but didn't find anything, after a proper look found this page which gives me hope that the cheapo option may well work.

What the hell, I'm going to go mad and splash out the $1.46, will post here with results when it is delivered in a couple of weeks.

Ah yes, I confused it with the N810, which has a micro USB socket. N800 and Pandora have got mini USB sockets.

If you buy one, please update. I think the one that came with my archos AV500 works, but I've not done more than check the LED on a USB stick with it yet. El-chepo from ebay did not work, but may just have been missing copper between the connectors!

I bought the cable with the white plug one from amazon.co.uk (Doesn't quite match the picture!) and it doesn't work. No USB link LED on my USB hub.

The keywords to search for this seem to be "usb otg adapter"
You are looking for mini A (male) to A (female)
Often you have to puzzle out whether the end is mini A or B
mini A has 'sloped sides', like this...._/-____-\_, when you look at end
mini B has square sides, like this...._|-_____-|_
$8 from a seller on eBay
There is a page about otg (on the go) at wikipedia
dave

[edit] I'm hoping that there are 2 usb controllers rather than one

I'm also planing to buy an Adapter to directly plug a mouse into the Pandora without using a Hub. AFAIK, you only have to look for a real "OTG" Adapter bi-directional 'n stuff so it will work. "Normal USB to mini USB Adapters don't work. So I guess your Example could do the Job. :)
Here, I had this one in mind:
http://www.amazon.de/Hama-00074214-OTG-Kabeladapter-Mini-USB-A-Stecker-USB-A-Kupplung/dp/B000EORX7U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=ce-de&qid=1278709831&sr=8-1

The adapter in the above link is miniA->AF even though I can't read German
Also that is the 'correct' shape for the plastic stress relief on the miniA end
(oval, not Square) Cheaper at eBay ($8US) but wrong plastic shape
If you can see the end that will be definitive (A sloped, B square)
The otg port can be either master or slave, depending if a A or B is plugged in (A=master)
A Master supplies power, a slave does not (consumes instead)
A master initiates conversation, a slave does not
The port can be told to 'flip'(with software), but the power does not switch
If you don't trust it, measure R pin 4->5 (A=0, B=inf)
ie A pin 4 connected to gnd, B pin 4 NC
[edit] the $1.46 from dealextreme is a mini B
The #6.97 from amazonUK is a mini A
You want mini A for a mouse, usb stick, hub, etc

[links] . Best picture of a miniA end, don't buy this! (only to printer)

In this search are 3 or 4, all $8

I see 16 results in that search,
http://cgi.ebay.com/OTG-Host-Cable-USB-female-mini-USB-male-Adapter-/130372308572
was the one I bought, and that has pin 4 not connected (so does not work with my pandora).

I can confirm wdt's picture of the mini-a is a good one. I think it is a little bit pot luck finding mini-a or mini-b, unless there is a clear picture, or an explicit description.

I'll wiki my photo...

In these 16 are 3 or 4 that are correct
These 3 or 4 are all $8
Any that are not $8 are likely not what you are looking for
Is that clear?
@tsh on the picture of the cable it says "5 pin mini B Plug" (AU$3.98)
at this link http://cgi.ebay.com/OTG-Host-Cable-USB-female-mini-USB-male-Adapter-/130372308572

So yes you have to puzzle it out

Hm, it should fit. "A" is the normal USP port and the Adapter leads it into a Mini USB with OTG capabilities. I'm pretty sure I can power a Mouse with this Adapter direclty from the Pandora. :)

Anyone tried to connect the OTG port to the Host port on the pandora with a single cable, to see if it detects itself or if it explodes? :D

whehehe
haha :D , i just might try it for lulz. It would be the worlds most useless usage of the usb mass storage device class to represent an SD card partition (on the pandora) to the pandora as a new usb stick :p (or connect both ends of an USB network link to the pandora, could (in some circumstances maybe, not sure) create some looping packets :p )

EDIT: Oh hmm it might also create a mysterious current loop in which the pandora tries to charge itself from itself (and loses energy due to converter losses), it might also engage the Usb host port overcurrent protection since the host port is 500mA max and the pandora is set to charge from USB at 600mA... I really have no idea on what will happen...

Bwuhaha, we already asked this of the dev board guys, and strangely, some of them have never been heard from again. Then a mighty volcano spat fire from the earth to try slow the production of said Pandora, DON'T CROSS THE STREAMS!

Meh, it does exactly what one would expect it to. It drains the battery and the pandora can recognize itself as an Usb mass storage device... So yeah dont do it, not because it's very dangerous, just because its a) useless and B) wastes power.

Crap.

Just ordered one of the Dealxtreme ones linked in the first post which I am now pretty certain will not work - that's gotta be a mini B connector. Was ordering a bunch of other stuff (USB serial adaptor, USB network adaptor, and USB hub) for my forthcoming Pandora so the xtra $1.50 won't break the bank.

If anyone sees sellers with good prices on mini A male to B female USB adaptors please add links here or to the wiki.
