I have been looking to buy a GP2X whenever I get enough money to do so. I looked at the different sites that seel this, and there seems to be a huge disparity in prices between them.
Why is ther such a price difference, and are some of these sites trying to rip us off?
Note: I am in the US, so I chose worldwide shipping for all and I am calculating un US$.
Sites:
http://gp2x.co.uk
Price (standard unit) = 106.37 gbp + 24.99 gbp [shipping] = 131.36 gbp
Price in US$ calculated by http://www.x-rates.com/calculator.html = $243.64

http://gp2x.allack.co.uk
Price = $209.95 + $22.00 [shipping] = $231.95

http://www.play-asia.com
Price = $169.90 + $25.30 [shipping] = $195.20

http://www.lik-sang.com
Price = 149.90 + $24.00 = $173.90

Why are the first 2 sites so high on price?
As far as I can tell, all of these sites sell the exact same GP2X MKII.
gp2x.co.uk charges $69.74 more than lik-sang, and $48.44 more than play-asia. Are these british sites ripoffs?
The price difference of $69.74 equates to 40% higher price.

I mean no disrespect in this post. I have read good posts on this board about each of the sellers. I'm just wondering why there is such a big difference in price for the same product.

I would guess that it has something to do with taxes and fees that the UK companies are required to pay as part of the importing process. (That is, they're passing along to you the cost of getting the merchandise from Korea to the UK, in addition to the cost of getting it from the UK to wherever you are.)

just what I was wondering... so I bought mine from liksang :p
But if you have to return a faulty unit, it cheaper to send it to the uk then to liksang, and theres the chance that you will have to pay taxes.

I live in the US & bought from play-asia.. It took a while though , like about a 2 or 3 weeks & payed for express EMS. But buying from hong-kong or japan is a bit of a gamble , for example if the unit is defective it would take longer & cost more to re-ship than buying the unit from the UK.

Also Game Park Holdings is a very small company located in korea. They dont have headquarters in america, japan & europe like sega & nintendo. Eventhough the sticker label says "Made in Korea" It could be possible that the GP2X was manufactured in china since china is the factory of the world.

*In my opinion*
If something is manufactured in china , then it would cost cheaper to the chinese consumer. Thus they buy in cheaper bulk and sell at a cheaper price & still make a profit.

Would the shipping rates back to the UK/Asia be the same as the prices for them to ship to me?
If so, UK shipping costs 24.99 gbp = $46.35, and Asia shipping costs $25.30

the uk is closer to usa than hong kong is but...

i ordered from liksang last week. should be here today or tomorow via ups.
lik sang might be discounting for any number of reasons (competing with playasia?).. maybe they got a bulk deal from gph? maybe they are liquidating them?

dont read too much into the price drop. liksang do pricedrops for short periods on lots of things.

Great Britians middle name is 'Tax' we get taxed silly amounts on everything, We get like 20-25% taxed straight from our pay packets THEN have to pay atleast 17.5% tax on everything we buy (Things like fags and petrol has 80% tax)

On quite a few items, if you pay $200 in the US, we'll pay £200 which is shite because the exchance rate is almost $2 to £1!

I hate this country, get me out of here.

You all miss one important point:

People like craigix (http://gp2x.co.uk) and EvilDragon (http://www.gp2x.de) here in Germany are supporting the community. Without the community the GP2x is dead. Does Lik-Sang and Play Asia support this community?

So think about it and make your decision...

Regards,
Stephan

The reason asian sites are so cheap are indeed the taxes.

They prices they have on their homepage is without import tax and without VAT.
Substract these from the prices on craig's (UK) or mine (Germany) shop and you get roughly the same prices. They are a tad more expensive as the overall prices you have to pay are higher than in Asian countries.

If you order from Lik-Sang.com or PlayAsia.com, you have to pay taxes and VAT. (in Germany, taxes for electronical devices are 30% and VAT is 16%).

I know Lik-Sang often declares the package with a low value so that you don't have to pay.
That's illegal - for LikSang and for the customer, if he doesn't take his package to the customs afterwards to declare the real value.

Also keep in mind I have to keep the archive and the German community running.

And craig as well as me try everything to push the gp2x. Besides donations for various coders (be it money or complete systems) we also send gp2x out to the press for reviews, pay for advertising, etc.
Without these, the gp2x wouldn't be as known as it already is.

This makes me wonder if I should buy this one guy's extremely lightly used psp for 160...

Uh, can you explain me some things about payment?
I have never used internet-shop, that would be in another country before. Just wish to know, how much gp2x will cost to me.

For example if Gp2x cost 200$ + $25.00 [shipping] = 225$
As i understand, i`m sending this money right now. But should i pay something else, when it arrived? Some kind of taxes at the post office or etc.?

Just afraid, that full cost can jump up to 300$ or even more. Thanks.

Depends on where you buy it and if you're lucky or not.
If you buy within the EU, for example, there are no more costs.
If you buy anywhere where there's no VAT on the item, you need to pay the VAT % of your country when it arrives. Varies from country to country, same is for customs.
