Decimate By 2 Or 3 ??

Decimating by 2 makes the file size smaller. It means only every other frame is processed. So theoretically the video size(not including the extra space for audio) should be half its previous size.

EDIT: Decimating by a large number can cause noticable audio desync.

I use decimate by 2, and it only causes desync when I ff or rewind.

If you decimate by 2 get 12fps.
If you decimate by 3 get 8 fps.

If you use virtualdub MOD then you can choose fps, although 12 is great for animated movies (monsters inc, toy story) and 14 or 16 looks great for things like total recall or matrix. Remember, more fps means more mhz for playback, and more batteries.

I have monsters inc with 12fps fitting in 64MB and it looks great using the XVID gp codec.

use convert to fps, and enter a number betweene 10and20 (15fps is a good choice), decimate gives bad results. also the fps dont change the file size couse you say how many kbps (kb per SECOND not per frame) you want. so you only give less space to a single frame but the size of a second is still the same
and you should allways use 2pass mode. and i prefer it to set a end size instand of a kbps, its better couse you can better use the full smc size.

How much longer does 2 Pass Mode take?? I have 60 - 70 Films to Encode :D LOL

hhmmm wont let me do 2 Pass... says Error ????????? Arrrrrrrrrrrr :D

maybe you are doing it wrong ?

1: let the 2nd pass, first pass encode the movie to set up a config file
2: save the 2nd pass, 2nd over the config file (.avi) and let it encode

now you are ready.

You must understand that the first .avi is just a config file,
and the movie should be saved over the config file. Else it won't work...

For 2-pass encoding, look into using the batch processor and just leaving the PC on over night. Worked for me; that way it'll take half an hour or so to set up (less if you save a set of settings for the first pass, and a set for the second, then load them between rather than manually tweaking), and then just leave it sitting there in the background...

I get thsi message when I try 2 pass,

"Video compression Error: An unknown error occured (Maybe Corrupt Data) Error Code -100"

But 1 pass I dont get that error
