Neogeo

Yes, it would seem about the right size to fit into memory, plus it's resolution is 320 X 224. But I'm not smart enough to make an emu ;P

neo geo cd games are spooled from the CD (single speed drive) and the machine itself has very little ram, so you could do exactly the same with the SMC.

and once you rip the cd audio out, many neogeo CD games are only a matter of megabytes.

however, i dont think the GP32 has the CPU to run NeoGeo at full speed, but thats something you'll never findout unless you try.

Don't forget NeoGeo games are normally three processors - A 68K, Z80 & some Yamaha sound chip. So, mostly like a megadrive then. A no-sound NeoGeo emulator should be possible, but it would be slow, as most games run at 10 or 12Mhz.

Two z80's isn't it? Atleast that's what I read on www.system16.com, in addition to the other processor's.

Neogeo is possible, check out Rlyeh's interview, he has the emulator semi-ported.

It sounds like he has a simple neogeo emu working, but not enough ram, so he is doing the upgrade, and possibly someday ;) .

Hooka: What about Neo Geo AES or MVS Emulation? What about with Robster's 32/64 MB ram upgrade?

Rlyeh: Robster has offered me a free 32m/64m upgrade repeated times, and I'm willing to send him one of my gp32's. As soon as I got it I'll try that neogeo port I did sometime ago ]:) For the rest of users I hope NeoGeo CD would be worthy since RAM is very very limited in this case. Dunno really.

Just for the interested. Also, the ram upgrade isn't too hard, so hopefully!

dont think so, they all the ones i have are over 20 mb (or is that irrevlevant)
If you are talkin about the NeoGeo pocket there are many game less then 20 megs

no, i am talking about Neo Geo

the big fat arse carts that weigh more than the console

amde in 1990, rivalled SNES in Japan (sort of)

immensley expensive (and I have one, just had to sneak that in)

Ditto (NGPC, AES, MVS 1-Slot). It's never going to happen. Carts are too big and SMC is too slow to load in chunks at a time (like you could on the pc when the first emu's for it came out). The only things that would ever work would be a few early launch titles... that run around 12-20mbit (Nam75 etc..), even then it would be very slow - the main 68000 runs at 12MHz compared to the MD/Genesis 7MHz, then there is a Z80, Yamaha sound cpu plus a host of other chips.

You could feasibly get one or two early games running very slowly, but why? When you can buy an MVS + supergun and grab a copy of Last Blade, Mark of the Wolves and Pulstar for real? :)

You haven't been around recently have you :)

The futures bright, the future's cyclonic!

I know of the assembly based 68k core, but I just don't think the ARM9 has the power to play anything but the smallest and most basic Neo games.

Although it would be a nice surprise if I were proven wrong!
