I want to show off GP cinema at it's best. ie I don't care about files sizes. I'm more concerned with video and audio quality. A 50min show filling a 128mb card would be fine.

So has anyone got any virtual dub settings that really push the GP32 and look good. I'm a bit of a virtual dub newbie so my experiments have not really produced anything better than the basic settings I've got from the faqs.

Higher quality can depend alot on whether you GP32 can do 166mhz or not, Especially for higher frame rates, EG. 24 fps. Or lower the frame rate and up the quality.

My GP can do 166. I'd rather have about 15fps - 18 fps and better quality frames and sound. Trouble is I've no idea what settings to try.

Last time I tried I thought wow that looks good but the file I ended up with was 900meg LOL.

Use the settings in the gpcinema section of this site for the best possible results.

Edit: And if you want to use 166, I guess you could up the framerate, but remember that the image quality will have to suffer for higher fps on 128 meg limit. I'd say improve the sound settings if you want to boost the clock rate and have something more impressive.

fps will have NO impact on final file size. a picture will always be displayed on screen and thus a level amount of space is required, a higher framerate requires more processing power though, the image must be changed more.

Ok, Iv`e just done a quick test and here are the results.

The video was episode 1 of dogtanian and the three muskehounds @ 23mins 48 secs 512x400 175 MB.

Settings:

Video
320x208 @ 15 fps (using convert to)
Xvid @ 400 kbps (overkill i know ;)) 1 pass CBR

Audio
Mpeg layer 3 @ 64 kBit/s 22050Hz stereo 8 KB/s

File size = 72.9 MB

Plays great @ 166mhz on GPCinema. :)

Yes, but It'll have less frames to store surely. If it's showing less a second. Therefore I'd have thought a smaller filesize would follw.

I've never tested it thought to be honest.

Nice one Trooper. I just tried those settings and they make everything just that little bit better.

I probably won't use the high settings all the time but I've got a mate with a sony th55 widescreen pda that runs kinoma and it looks bloody lovely I just wanted to show him you can get close on the GP32. PS Kinoma rocks for quality but sucks for file sizes. I worked out you'd need about 400mb for a nice quality 90minute film. Hehehe my mates only got a 64mb card at the moment. :)

PS Dogtanian... Class stuff. Up there with the likes of Dangermouse.

I believe it just alocates the extra space to making the frames look crisper. eg at 24fps the film is smoother but at 15fps the film is sharper. However the file size is more or less the same.
