Hia,

I installed the MFW2 Firmware on my GP3, and is has an older version of Wind Up. Is there a newer version somewhere?

TTFN,
Clare.

dl newest windups at http://www.wind-ups.net/
launch it with pacrom.
change your text color.

Hia,

Thanks for the reply.

The downloads on that site don't work, and that's just windups standalone isn't it. And anyway. how would you add wind ups to MFW2 to include it with the firmware?

Clare.

To upgrade Wind-Ups, all you need do is replace the Wind-Ups FXE - I think spiv's MFW2 just launches the FXE contained in GPMM, and I know Aquafish's does.
Spiv's MFW actually embeds the fxe into the firmware, as does Aquafish's (but you can set Aquafish's fw's to launch a file from the smc which might be what you are thinking). To use a newer version with Spiv's MFW2 you need to put the fxe on the smc, set pacrom as the default fw, then set wind-ups as the autostart fxe (highlight the fxe and press b followed by a).

I didn't have to go through all that; I simply installed the newer version of Windups first, then I flashed to MFW2, then set Windups as the default FW. I'm assuming that if you flash first, you'd just need to install the new Windups and select it as the default.

Hmm, I must have missed a version of Aquafish's then. I have used v4 and 5 and both require the FXE on the GPMM, same for YAFL.

Yep I'm a woman who actually owns a GP32. Nothing wrong with that, I'm pretty good in computing full stop :) .
I even have the cute little keyboard for it!

Hi guys,

Me again, I set pacrom as the default, and told it to use Wind ups as the quicklaunch, and it all works!!!

You guys are so helpful :).

Thanks,
Clare.

I just found something, is there a reason why Wind-ups has a problem launching a .gxe file?

I'm trying to put a shortcut to Pinball Dreams pdgame.gxe on the windups desktop, but have just found out that windups errors on trying to launch it.

Clare.

Windups 0.99 was included in Mr Spivs Mutlifirmware 2, and Windups 1 is in Aquafish's Multifirmware 5.01. Version 1 allows you to delete files in the file browser from the SMC which is very handy. Both these firmwares appear to include the executable in the BIOS itself so you don't need an FXE on the SMC unless you want to run a newer version.

There is a version 2 but it doesn't appear to be much different and has an annoying strtup screen which puts you a step away from the desktop whenever you start it up.

In summary I would say the best flash to get Windups installed is probably to go for Aquafish 5.01...

Hia,

Thanks for that, I can't seem to find a downlaod for Aquafish 5.01 though, they all seem to be in french or german. Any ideas where I can get it from?

Clare.

It's on his homepage here:

http://www.gp32x.de/aquafish

Click Firmwares and then it's the second in the list, "Télécharger" meaning download in French. You can choose one of 2 versions to install, so go for the Windups one, the Readme should explain everything - just make sure you have fresh batteries as if the process is interrupted for any reason your GP32 will be pretty useless!

Wind-ups and most other launchers can't launch .gxe's because the encryption stuff is secret. Pacrom is the only homebrew fw with true support for gxe's, but it does have problems with a rare few files. Aquafish has recently released a hack to allow homebrew stuff to launch gxe's which basicly calls the eurofw which then launches the file. This means other launchers will be appearing soon with gxe capability (I plan to add it into YAFL), but unfortunatly it will be slower than official stuff due to the need to load eurofw into memory first and move a few files around :(

Aha, They are encrypted. That makes sence as I had to register my GP32 before I could buy the game! I can easily launch it from the original euro firmware anyway so it's not a problem.

Another point of interest, since I updated the firmware, I am having problems communicating via the USB. I mainly use a card reader so it's not a huge problem. But have you ever experienced this? I'm using Windows XP.

Clare.

yes, thats normal. its also mentioned in the readme. But since there´s pacrom built in, you can always use thta for PC-Link.
