i know i already mentioned this in the my little pet thread but.........
tamagotchi for gp32 would be so cool i felt it needed its own thread plz post ur thoughts :) :)

would a Tamagotchi type thing work?? cos doesnt the real handheld tamagotchi pet things grow all the time?? When the GP32 is turned off, it would not grow anymore... hhmm

Yeah...I was going to say that too:
The GP32 doesnt have any real time clock when OFF so it wont be the same feelings as playing with a true one...but that could be good

see you

i think that leaves room for a new gp32 mod a cmos type memory with a watch battery which will keep a clock on it running :) would this be possible?

and even if it would not be at least then if u get fed up of it u can just leave for awhile till u feel like playing again so it could be a good thing!

Hey all

I see a mention of a CMOS clock mod by Rob Brown? Where can I find a link to this?? I've been searching but no luck as of yet.

I'm really wanting one so that I can keep current time, and use my GP32 as a PDA (when I get one). Ist he only way I can convince my fiance to let me buy one :)

You already can use it for some PDA type functions. There is an address book, text reader, and more. Check out Wind-ups. I don't use it as a launcher but it has some PDA type things that I use it for.

Wouldn't work. While a real time clock would work, the CPU must be running to run a program like a tamagotchi. A watch battery would last for about 5 minutes if it ran the CPU.

nah what u want is a bit of code that works out what the creature WOULD have wanted while the gp32 was off cus fair enough watch battery wouldnt run cpu.

What you need is not for the watch battery to run the CPU, just the watch! What is needed is an interface between the watch and the GP32 to allow the GP32 to read the date+time from the watch when it IS on.

The watch just runs normally doing nothing, and the GP32 reads the time whenever it wants to (software specific).

I believe the CMOS clock on your motherboard works in the same way! It has a battery backup, but definately doesn't run the CPU! And it lasts for years and years. The motherboard/cpu is able to somehow interface with the CMOS clock to read the current date/time and passes this info to the software that uses it (i.e. windows).

DaveC - I realise that wind-ups already has some PDA specific functions, but I would like to extend them by adding proper date/time using the method above. This means that I can have a calendar that pops up on the correct date even if the GP32 has been switched off, for instance.

Cheers,
Peter
