Hey guys found this program on www.sourceforge.net its called DVDx and it encodes dvds to any format you want, im just trying it now and the projected size for my file is 69mb so its looking good, hopefully it should be gp32 compatible, ill see in about 20mins if it is :D

It will be if you encoded it right...

The best thing is to rip the DVD to 700mb then use virtual dub to convert that to a gp32 friendly version.

sounds like this process though will cut a bunch of steps like using VDub and the dvd2avi and all that.

DVDx rox...I used it to try and get Matrix Revolutions down to a good size, it was 200 megs though :( It works great, just wish there was a way to rip directly to GP32 compatible format...cut down on time and stuff...but the audio only goes down so far on DVDx.

why do you want to convert it twice? thats plain stupid, you loose quality with that. just rip the dvd with any normal dvd ripper like smartripper and then convert the vob straight with virtualdubmod or virtualdub+vfapi

Depends on what you're after. If you're only eve going to watch the DVD on your GP32, then yeah, go straight there. Otherwise, sticking in the 700mb phase does help in 2 ways.

Firstly, it means you've got one that's of perfectly watchable quality on your computer. This is entirely useless if you own the DVD and don't mind putting a disk in every time you want to watch the film/series/whatever.

Secondly, it probably speeds things up if, e.g., you find yourself needing to tweak a few settings. If the file came out at 129mb, for example - just need to drop a couple of bits or perhaps the framerate a bit (framerate would make a difference here, simply because its so close - normally it only makes about 5-10mb anyway, though, even dropping from 20 to 10 fps). But if you don't have the interim stage at 700mb, you'll need to rip it again. Of course, if you own the DVD this may not be too much of an issue, but I'd be surprised if it were faster to rip from scratch than to re-encode a 700mb file from VD.

Clearly, if you're doing the borrow-from-blockbuster-then-rip thing, though, its definitely worth the 700mb file in the meantime. But who here would do that lol? ;-)

I allways rip the dvd with dvdx to 24fps then use virtualdub to compress and half the fps

because if you rip at 25fps then half the fps in virtualdub you end up with gpcinema thinking its 13fps instaed of 12.5, so your audio will unsync.

(at least that what happens to me) :)

also means i can get very small files (depending on footage).

the prog dvd2svcd you can covert the dvd to , avi,mpg etc whatever you want its also possible to convert it direct ...
