Just wondered what peoples opinions are, I didn't know whether to put this here or in the dev forum.

Anywoo, in a game, the lifes/tries left are indicated by icons or numbers. Whats everyone think:

Is the last life best indicated with the last icon/on a one count or is it best to indicate it as when no icons are shown/on zero count?

I prefer a 0 too, but to avoid confusion you could always warn "LAST LIFE", "FINAL LIFE", "LAST CHANCE" or something similar on screen breifly when the new life is started, or have numbers and color code 0/1 to red.

0 has become the default. I can remeber playing dynamite heady on my gamegear when I was little and dying on one, how dissapointing.

I prefer zero, too.

I hate it when it reads "Lifes=1" and when I die, I think I have one left, with counter going to "Lifes=0" but instead getting a "Game Over" Screen. I really hate it!

I agree, i prefer having a zero life. Its a nice surprise sometimes too when you think that your games up. :)

The idea is that you are using a life right then. The indicator is for lives LEFT. For example, if you have a box of cookies and the last one is in your hand, then you have 0 cookies left. You still have the one in your hand though. Basically its just like that.

PS im a school teacher, can you tell?

Blinking a red "LAST LIFE!" would be very cool and innovative, in my opinion (along with a numerical count, of course).
lol as long as they don't have an irritating alaarm when you're on low health like Zelda on the SNES. That does my head in.

I agree. I don't think it's bad to have the sounds to tell you you're low on life, but you should be able to turn it off if you want.

I prefer a 0 life because I get really angry if it says "Life=1" and then I die and "GAME OVER" comes onto the screen. I think that maybe they could use "Life=X" or "Life=NO" to make it easier to understand.
