Compatibility List For New Drmd

Has anyone ever had Slapfight running on any MD emulator.

Cant for the life of me get the damn thing to run.

It boots to the menu screen but as soon as start the game it re-boots the GP32.

Found a bug, if this is still the place to put them.

DrMD seems to not completely overwrite controller settings when you change them. I'm not sure how to word it exactly...

For example, when I first installed the new DrMD, I went to controller config and set my buttons as B=Genesis A, A=Genesis B, R=Genesis C.

Then I notice, whenever I hit L+R to go to the menu (save or whatever) then go back into the game, it will register that I hit C button in game (from hitting button R). This became apparent when every time I went to save playing Golden Axe, when I come back to the game from the menu, it would trigger my magic spell!

So I changed the controller setting back to default (Select as A button). But I notice after that, it also still registers R button as Genesis A button and still give me the problem every time I go to the menu! To erase the problem I had to erase the settings file completely.

Anyways, just wanted to point this out, no big deal as easy to fix for me :D

bast525, At the moment I check for a game exit after I've updated the genesis input context. Its an easy fix to move the check before I update the genesis input context. Thanks for the feedback.

I think I've found a non Cyclone bug with Desert Strike. It worked in the previous DrMD but now locks up in version 1.0 at the screen just before you start flying. Can anyone else confirm this?

azurege, i think slap fite (cool game) works with an older version of gigadrive or fgen, not the current ones though. i'll investigate and get back to you (I remmeber running it on my GP32 at some point)

Reesy, thank you. :) :) :)

Now, for my experiences:

I have a normal GP32 FLU, and games were tested at 144Mhz (sometimes 156)

Beyond Oasis - perfect

Comix Zone - intro works fine, but as soon as I get into the game it shows a black screen

Ecco Jr. - the controls in the game seem to be completely out-of-sync... the dolphin moves all the way to the right side of the screen.

Fantastic Dizzy - black screen upon startup

Garfield Caught in the Act - perfect

Golden Axe 2 - perfect

Jim Power - very weird; all foreground objects have horizontal transparency lines going through them! Unplayable...

Panorama Cotton - someone on this board once said that he used this game as a guide by which to set Genesis emulators because it's so hard to emulate. This is actually very playable! It's really cool to be playing a Starfox-like game on the Genesis! There are a few bugs, however; for one thing, the lower fourth of the screen looks very strange.

Pirates Gold - the intro, game start & duel works, but all I see after that is a black screen.

Pirates of Dark Water - perfect

Ren & Stimpy's Invention - no music

Rings of Power - menu works, and the border around the map works, but the actual map itself on which the game takes place is a black screen.

Risk - works well, except the music seems to be slowed down & there are strange background noises.

Ristar - perfect!

Scrabble - black screen upon startup

Soleil - perfect

Sonic & Crackers - works if you press "start" twice quickly. Music works, no sound effects (not sure if there were any in the original game...)

Space Harrier 2 - perfect

Spot Goes to Hollywood - perfect

Star Control - black screen upon startup (please, please look into this :( )

Toejam & Earl - perfect

Toejam & Earl 2 - perfect

Turrican - black screen upon startup

Vectorman - perfect, no music

*pokes reesy*

Maybe it's best if you keep a website with all the current news on the project.

Open a paypal account now, so I may insert my $15 for your wealth. o.o

Samurai Showdown - seems to work perfectly graphics and sound wise, but does not respond to button input.

My Paypal account is drsms_reesy"at"yahoo.co.uk :) ,replace the "at" with @

I may release a "menu bugfix" version today, unless someone finds any more bugs in the next few hours. The fixes so far are as follows,

Max 128 roms now increased to 512

DrMD pad configuration is cleared correctly before news keys are defined.

Cpu is now slowed to 40Mhz when making any writes to the smc, hopefully this will resolve any "DrMD ate my smc" problems ;)

Menus now wrap around.

Hmm... My copy of Star Control works. Melee takes a little long to start up,
all there is a black screen for a few seconds. And the sound fx doesn't work at
all. Apparently it does that with the DAC chip. Music works, though.

It may be particular to FLU units but I'm not noticing very much difference between the 3 brightness settings.

Things are generally darker than I'd expect.

EDIT:- Reesy if you want free webspace for hosting a DrMD site let me know

Some things I found:

Roms over 128 don't show. A good way around this is to have the emu support directory browsing. This way you could separate ROMs into subdirectories such as ABC, DEF, etc. That would also make getting to the last game faster as you wouldn't need to scroll down as much.

This is a small improvement and not a big deal. In the menu it would be nice if it supported "scroll wrap". In other words if you are at the top of the menu and wanted to get to the last option you could press "up" and it would wrap to the last item and scroll up. Right now it stops at the first item so you need to press down a bunch of times to get to the lower items. Not a big deal though.

A few games that I have tried so far:

Sonic 2 - music is slow, bottom two scanlines are out of sync. (Samsung LCD).

not an emu bug, happens on the real Megdrive ;-)

music = z80 irq latch problem probably (i had it on DGen)

fdave your the man.. You mentioning z80 irq latch reminded me that ages ago I disabled some code in my Z80 core. The code was in the EI "enable interupts" opcode. The z80 will take an interupt if the irq flag is high when the EI opcode is excuted but for some reason ( probably testing ) I stopped the z80 from taking an interupt there.

I've fixed the code and the music in Sonic 2 and 3 is now fine :)

damn, you know what this means?

I won´t go offline now, you might release it every minute :D

EDIT: found a bug in paperboy (no Cyclone bug):

well, it hangs when you pass the first house of your route. The same ROM works in fGEN, so i guess it´s not cyclone related. Not too big a problem, as Paperboy 2 runs fine.

BTW: what do flags like [b1] mean after the ROM names?

b generally stands for bad dump, try a different version of the same rom.

edit: just tried a different version of paperboy, same thing :(
