Dear all, new user here.

I intend to buy a GP32 and wanted the backlit version but have read that there are some issues with existing emulators etc on that version. Is this enough reason to get the FLU?

Cheers.

yes, i reacon u should get an gp32 flu, the blu+ is crap the lcd is scewed and it always crashes i'v got an flu and its amazing...

only bad thing is the trap dust which can be cleaned via opening the gp32...

I have a blu+. You have to find the latest (compatible) version of each emulator but that's no real problem. The only consistent issue I have is that the very top scanline is moved to the very bottom. To be honest, I angle my GP slightly away from me anyway, so the bottom scanline is hidden from view as the screen is quite recessed. Even when looking straight-on it's really not noticeable while playing. I'm running SNES, NES, ZX, GEN, MS, SC3000, GPE, GBC and Doom and have no problems with compatibility or white bars. Mine overclocks to 156 but freezes at 166 (usually).
As for the quality of the picture, I haven't played with a flu, but the picture on my blu+ is clear and bright at all points. I love the thing. Go for it!
:)

Chargaman you need to cool it. I seem to remember you were warned by members a while back to bring something to the board instead of hoaxing.
Wasn't it you that said you'd developed a N64 emulator?
<_<

BTW Quo Vadis, if you get a GP get it from GBAX if you can. Jacquelyn is very helpful and they have excellent service. I was very happy with them.
I think Craig is from GBAX (I'm kind of new to the board, still figuring out who's who).

Cheers. So do you get the moved scanline even with compatible emus?

I was thinking about getting it from them but read somewhere about them claiming to deliver in a day then taking 4 weeks about it. It's available in a couple of shops over here (UK) so I also thought about getting one from them, although I presume they won't have the 166MHz version.

No worries. Just tested them for you...
Little John (NES) - no moved scanline
FSMS32 (MS) - no moved scanline
Park o rama (SC3000) - no moved scanline
SNES9XGP (SNES) - moved scanline
CaSTaway (Atari ST)- moved scanline
GPEngine (PC Engine) - moved scanline
FGB32 (GBC) - no moved scanline
Fgen32 (Genesis) - moved scanline
DrMD (Genesis) - moved scanline
FZX32 (Spectrum) - no moved scanline
Doom - moved scanline

Keep in mind some of these run borders well inside the GP's screen so you'd not know if the scanline was moved or not. If I expand FGB32 to fill the screen it moves the top down.
Seriously, don't let it stop you from getting a blu+. Unless you can find a regular blu?
I'm totally happy with mine. Perhaps you should try to see the diffference in screen quality between flu and blu? I would imagine the blu is nicer but like I said, I've not tried a flu.

It's not up to me to forgive for something of the past, the board members did forgive you for that fib about the N64.
But saying the blu+ crashes for no reason is another fib. If you're going to volunteer information to someone who's politely asking for help it's very uncool to lie and people won't appreciate it. If you have a flu and like it just say so. I've told Quo Vadis that I have a blu+, like it, but can't speak for the flu 'cause I haven't used one. You clearly haven't used a blu+.
The board is here to support members. So cool it.

I had a FLU before getting my BLU. My advice: Get a BLU at all costs. The screen is SOOOOO much nicer. The FLU colors are all washed out and the lighting is very en-even like a GBA-SP. The contrast and color saturation is way better on the BLU.

I suspected the picture was nicer on a blu, it's good to know it was worth my while to get one. Mine was in the post while I was on holiday overseas, and the screen issues came to prominence during that time. I spent weeks thinking I'd bought a lemon. When I got home and fired the thing up, got the right software etc I was stoked.
I'm really amazed the batteries go so long (though it helps to use really good quality batteries). I had a lynx many moons ago and it ate them. Progress.

I would recommend getting a BLU+ from GBAX. That way you can guarantee getting a 160/166mHz GP32, which the more advanced emulators (SNES, PC Engine, Lynx) require.

You may have to wait a couple of weeks (I only had to wait three weeks and I live in Australia) but the extra wait is well worth it to get a better GP32. Order anywhere else and you take your chance - you may wind up with one that goes no higher than 133mHz.

I've got a regular BLU (one of the lucky just before it changed) but from what I've seen on these boards the BLU+ is very well supported now so it's the one to get.
