Simple Question

Hey guys,

I just need a simple question answered.

What happens when you turn on the GP32 without an SMC in it? Does the device boot to the main menu at all?

Reason i ask is i just repaired a dead GP32 BLU by installing a new diode in it. I now have the power light turning on, however nothing appears on the screen. I dont have an SMC to test it out with (stupid i know) so i'm wondering if this is normal behaviour for the absense of an SMC.

Otherwise i'll have to continue testing individual components.

Thanks.

[You are going to want to keep working on it... a good gp32 with no smc puts a message on the screen telling you that you are missing your smc...I have done it many times absent mindedly...

Ok, i have now managed to get the screen powering on and the backlight working, after replacing a dead capacitor.

However, nothing appears on the screen, and there is still one more component left that looks like it's dead.
Only prob is, i have no bloody idea what the hell the component is, so i'll have to do some research.

Just wondering,

If anyone has a BLU unit that they have previously opened, could they PLEASE open it up and take a photo of the bottom left, back section of the board (the side WITHOUT the screen, and located near the power input).

It would really come in handy for some reference, considering i'm swapping out components here.

Also, if anyone is knowledgable when it comes to electronic components, i have a picture of the faulty component which i can't identify. The problem is i have no webspace to upload the picture to. So if you could provide me with an email address so i can send you the photo and you can hopefully identify the component for me. It would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I also have an open BLU lying around as the screen is broken.
Apart from that, the unit works fine.

BTW: The BLU doesn't boot without LCD, maybe the connector cable came lose.
It doesn't even make a sound when the LCD isn't connected.

I'm pretty sure the LCD is connected, because you can see it power on (and the backlight comes on) when i turn on the unit. Only thing is, it wont go further than that.

If i dont manage to get her running again, i'll be willing to send you the unit for parts EvilDragon (at a cost of course). So you can get your broken screen replaced.
I'll let you know when i finally give up.

Sorry to sound repetitive to everyone, but if you could get a photo of the inside of your BLU unit, located on the back on the left (side with the power adapter input) and around the speaker plug area on that side, it would be incredibly helpful.
