After reaging an article on slashdot I decided to check out some audio games, games designed for the blind. I checked out a site called http://www.audiogames.net/ and downloaded the demo of Drive, all I can say is wow.

These games are something differant, you have to play them with headphones, and I found closing my eyes did help alot. It is really refreshing to find something like this, I sugest you try the Drive demo.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, there is also a version of Quake, I'm downloading it now.

Too lazy to explain, follow the link ;).

They use sound effects to emulate movements etc. and they use bleeps and stuff to direct you to objects. Read the damn link!

What exactly is an audio game?

An audio game is a game that consists (only) of sound. Its gamemechanics are usually based on the possibilites of sound as well. Usually (but not always) audio games have only auditive (so no visual!) output. Audio games are NOT specifically games for the blind! It is true that most audio games around at the moment are developed by and for the blind community. But we think audio games have the potentional to be a genre on its own due to the immense undiscovered possibilities of sound. We believe that audio games have the potentional to be a complete gaming genre on its own. Audiogames.net aims to promote audio games and support and inform the audio game community. By providing a clear view on the audio game genre we also contribute to evergrowing game industry who is only just now beginning to recognize some of the potentials of sound.

aces, I wrote an essay a while back about videogames. In one section I was complaining about the lack of games for the blind/deaf so this is good!

hehehe,

5.1 surround on my mobo! Plus a 'backup' soundblaster :p

Yeah... Comes in handy when the main line-out jack is broken... I just plugged it to the rear-output... Volume is low, though.

You know, before I'd heard about this kind of thing I tried to make one of these in TGF. Tried to make a platformer type thing, but as you cant alter the volume of each sound effect it was impossible.

Downloading Drive...
