Hi, I have tried to convert Cheech and Chong's "Up In Smoke" from a Region 2 DVD
and it came out in some other language, I have tried DVD Decrypters Stream processing bit by selecting only the english streams. But when i converted that it had no sound.(I hope i make some sense)
Could anyone please help me

Well, it depends on how you will continue after decrypting with DVD Decrypt.
Every .vob file has different audio streams, which all have different IDs (the IDs DVD Decrypt shows when you select audio streams).
One is set as the default stream.
If you deselect a bunch of audio streams, those are not anymore in the .vob-file.
But the "link" to those audio IDs is still there.

Now, when you decode the VOB-Files into DivX, you'll have to select the right audio stream ID, otherwise
you'll have the wrong language or - if you deselected the corresponding stream - no sound.

well, i know jack crap about ripping dvds cause i messed up alot when i tried too. I do know that downloading movies you already own is legal so i would try a divx rip on kazaa(if your not in the us that is) or imesh/edonkey..

it is, you already own the thing so the copyright is still valid you can create one back up so the rip is the backup

There is an incredible help site out there for ripping dvds. It's called dvdrhelp.com (or you can use vcdhelp.com). Find the dvd rip How To that uses the program DVDx. The site also provides links to download all of the needed programs used in the how to. DVDx will let you choose the angle, audio tracks, subtitles, and everything else you want to be able to choose when encoding.

Hi,
Cheers for the help.
I cant be bothered downloading films as im only on 56k, anyway id rather learn how to do it myself.
I can never seem to get any of those DVD ripping programs to work properly. Ill have a look at that dvdrhelp site

There are 2 ways I've tried to rip the DVD to GP32 video.

The first is to use DVDx to rip the DVD, and encode to a high quality DIVX. Then use VirtualDub to convert the DIVX file to GP32 standards. This is easier, but you can harm the DVD using this method, and there's an increased chance the sound and video won't align properly.

The second method is to SmartRipper to copy the DVD files to your hard drive. Yes, this takes up a lot of space, but your hard drive can take more abuse than your DVD. I then use DVDx to convert the files on your hard drive to an MPEG video. Make this as high quality as you can. And yes, this will take up even more space. Then follow through with VirtualDub, as usual. This method takes longer and more space, but is more reliablem, and easier on your DVD.

There are other ways, but all of these programs are freeware/shareware, so no hacking/cracking/serials are needed.

Also, I recommend using XVID instead of DIVX to encode the GP32 movie. The results are amazing!

This is how I convert DVD's to divx for my gp32

smartripper to rip the dvd to the hd
dvd2avi to demux the audio and save a project file for the movie
VFAPIConv to convert the d2v project file to a frameserved AVI
Virtualdub to convert the frameserved AVI to divx for the gp32
PX3Convert to convert the ac3 audio into a wav

All the programs are free so should be easy to find

Hmmm. Kind of a roundabout way of doing it, but it sounds good. How long does it take? Mine takes about 4 hours, before I do the final conversion to DIVX/XVID, which takes about another hour to an hour and a half.

Not as long as that
Smartripper takes 10-15 mins to rip a dvd
DVD2AVI took 6 mins to save a project file
VFAPIConv is just a file conversion so it's just a quick save
Px3Convert took about 5 mins to save the wave
VirtualDub took just over an hour and a half per pass

I had the same problem with ripping a RC2 DVD which had German language on the first track. I got around it with "Stream Processing" in DVD Decrypter:
- Select "enable stream processing"
- deselect all soundtracks you don't need
- finally, if the one you do not need is not "0x80", change it to 0x80
So it will become the default soundtrack. Thus I use the "DVD2AVI -> VFAPIConv -> VDub" sequence.
The only thing I've not yet figured out is how to put subtitles into the encoded AVI.

Just to let you know, I got it working quite easy
I just used dvdx to make a VCD mpg file, then used Virtual Dub to convert that to divx, though it took a while, about 3 hrs and compressed it to 88meg
I also did the same with Back To The Future
Cheers again for the help

I just use three programs.

DVD decrypter.
Then Flask MPEG (which works in exactly the same way as Vdub but supports DVD's and lets you choose audio track)
The Vdub.

Simple.

Just use flask MPEG to encode to Divx 4.12 and then just use Vdub to change size and bitrate.
