I'm kinda not in on the whole l337 thing... Whenever I see l337 speech I think of dumb teenagers playing cs all day and calling each other "n00bs" and "I 0wnz yo azz!", which isn't what I like to associate the GP2X with. Let the PSP have that crowd. Still I think DaveC's got something there. The Linux association, the simple design with typewriter fonts. Very cool. Just not the retarded l337 speech...might just be me though <_<

Well what ever the reaction "retarded l3375p34k" or "cool h4xx0r speak" like it or hate it, at least if you see it somewhere you will look at it. To those who don't know what it is they will read to find out and again we win because they read the add :)

It gives a more underground net culture type feel and is a contrast with the everyday slick adds that most people will ignore because thay see so many and become immune to.

Hey man, i used this image for my New GPX2 yahoo group, is that okay?

also, @DaveC- your ad is pretty cool. Am liking the GP2X image you used.

I actually made it in Adobe illustrator. It is vector based so it prints as sharp as possible no matter whatsize you print it. It never gets pixellated even if you printed it on a billboard sized paper. Now we need someone to try that, A GP2X billboard :)

I like the 1337, it's only there to capture people's attention. However, the letters R and U look a little cheap... Maybe use another font and maybe the R could be turned around...

Oh, please no! You have no idea how much backwards "R"s piss me off. Yes, I'm Russian, and no, it doesn't actually read as "R"... it's a completely different letter. <_< Pretty much all portraits of Russians in Western society are completely off the mark, but that's another story. ;)

Anyway, at least make an alternate version with a regular "R" if you just have to make it backwards.

No I won't be putting in a backwards "R" This wont read like Toys "R" US where the r is backwards like some little kid did it.

By the way I just fixed the button letters and spelling error. Download the *PDF* file.

Have you tried this yet?

Download the PDF format (not the low-res JPeg) and print it on a laser printer. If you have one at work/school etc use that. I just did it at the office and it came out really sharp, looks pretty nice off of a 600 DPI printer.

Has anyone else printed it yet?

No, because my stupid printer won't let me print anything if even ONE of my colour ink cartridges runs out. <_<
I will though - I plan to post them in random places around my university campus. :)

DaveC, this is really nitpicky, but in the new word "development", the "m" is really close to the "p" - if you look in the actual font, there is a slight space between every letter, but the way that you corrected it it looks a bit squished. It might be natural like that, but it seems like it should be maybe two times wider or so.

/you have every right to tell me to shove it now. :p I know that it's minor.

The fonts just come that way it is the kerning or what ever you call it. there other places where it happens a bit too. I don't know how to change it. I had to teach myself Adobe Illustrator just to do this so I am not an expert yet.

You are not using the jpeg though are you  . That is too low res and will look too pixely and look like crap, DON'T use that. Ok I "fixed" the jpeg :p so no one gets lazy and just uses that ;)

If you have access to a laser printer maybe you could use that and print the PDF. I tried it at work today and it looks real sharp and clean.

if you work or go to school at a place with alot of networked printers and PCs, print off 5 or so on every printer you can access ! and leave em there

Don't worry DaveC, I'm not using the jpeg. ;) I made a mistake by not completely reading your post once - I did read your following post, though. The PDF does look a lot better.

I'm waiting for my ink to arrive, since I realized that buying ink on ebay was about 10x cheaper than buying it at the store.

Here is another add with 4 smaller adds per page. This is useful for putting in smaller spaces where a full size add is not appropriate. It prints 4 per page so you can cut into smaller pieces.

The image is just for preview, download the file. The text is too small to be useful in the jpeg.

If the image here is not showing or you can't download try later, bandwith limits of the free service ;)

That is fine. Good luck with it :)

I've printed one copy off my crappy printer at home and it looked pretty good. I then put the file on my flash drive and I plan on printing off a lot more at my school because they have really nice printers.

Wow, that was quick - it's not showing now. Is it a daily or a monthly bandwidth allowance?

It says that it will be back within the hour so I would guess hourly. The file is kind of big. I guess everytime it is accessed it counts to the bandwith limit. I tried zipping it but it barely reduced the file size so I didn't bother with zip.

I hate to be the grammar police, I really do, but in the disclaimer it should be "ad" and not "add". I just moved into a hotel and now I've got a lot of spare time. I'm gonna try making an ad today.

someone had to do it, i was making one but couldnt find a good GP2X pic...

I go to photoshop and click A4 but the image is HUGE. when i paste a GP2x pic its practically microscopic.

That is why I used a vector based program. No matter how big or small you size it it never gets pixely :)

I will fix the spelling error now ;)

Somehow, I really, really doubt that using a religious figure for a Korean handheld games console would go down well in Eastern Countries. Especially one that suggests he kills kittens. ... Or maybe I'm just being too politically correct... although it's true, could start a war.. just make an advert with cute kittens, dogs, and beautiful women in strappy tops, THEN you've got yourself a winning console.
