Korean Policy Page

OK, something a little interesting.

From my translation... (making a few assumptions.)

The policy in korea for returns is if you have 4 or more dead pixels, they will replace the screen for free.

However, the LCD manufactors policy is 5 or more dead pixels. But because these guys are super cool, and they think that four is too much, they will replace 4 dead pixels at their own loss.

Free service is for 1 year after purchase. If you modify the device in any way. (Inclusing painting it) you will have to pay for the value of each component.

After one year they will still service the product but they will charge you per component. A list will be made available soon for the cost of each component.

If you send the product to them for service, they will return it free of charge.

They also want you to package your device carefully, because they will not be held responcible for damage received by the device in the post.

They want to thank everyone for all the interest in the product.

Remember that this is for Koreans. I'm not sure if internationals like us will receive the same service agreement.

Hmm, if Benheck has thought me anything it's that it's cool to work with LCD's. I'm thinking it would be faster to replace your own screen if it breaks, but definitely cheaper to send it back, even all the way to Korea.

Thanx,
Stan

It sounds like they are preparing us for systems with alot of dead pixels.

to me 1 is unaccepable let alone 4. 4 would be totally unuseable and be complete rubbish.

Oh...... I totally forgot to mention.

They expect dead pixels to be extreamly rare.

This is a policy anyway. So it has to be defined.

The website post went on to mention that dead pixels shouldn't be a problem; it's just common practice to cover yourself that way. With the BLU+ track record, it should be a non-issue.

EDIT: Beaten by one minute.

The only reason they mention this is because it's suddenly such a huge issue now thanks to the DS and PSP. People have already asked about DPs on this forum in at least 2 threads that I've seen.

Dead pixels on low resolution LCDs are pretty rare.
I've never even seen a dead pixel on 320x240 LCDs on modern devices, and most PDAs have such TFTs.

Its the same screen as the BLU+ so why would it be any more likely to have dead pixels? How many BLU+ owners have dead pixels? I have none on my FLU and BLU btw.

Sony LCDs are known to be the crappiest around.
And the PSP is no low-res LCD anymore. It's mid-res.

yeah, it's mid res,but it's not made by sony is it? i thought it was samsung or sharp or osmething

samsung for america and sharp for japan or something. also considering that this is a midrange LCD with 32bit colour depth (vs generally 16 bit), higher refresh rate and consistent colour quality, it's a relatively good screen, it just has dead pixels, and that's no good, no good at all!

i just love how Sony Ericsson z500 cell phones ( and probably other ones too) vary from brigthness from screen to screen (my one is way too bright), and ahve inconsistent colour (bright red on one pixel dark red on another) not to mention they refresh damn slow.

The PSP screen has higher refresh rate? Have you played one? It has terribly SLOW refresh rate to the point that is smears massively with fast moving darker colors.

Well I agree with the SONY point and all, but my DS has 1 dead pixel stuck at light green on the top screen. Not really noticeable except in dark games.

AFAIK it's Sony's OWN development, the LCD.
They develop LCDs with dark black, but terrible smear effects... and lots of dead pixels.

"smear effects" is feature to improve the realism in all the racing made for the PSP. For example it help the "nitro" effect in NfS:U Rivals.

Actually they arn;t refering to the racing game "nitro effect" they're talking about color trails that arnt meant to occur.

Frankly though it's never created that much of a problem for me and it's never kept me from being able to play a game.

Also the screens are current made by Samsung.
