Are those extra 5 fps so noticable, as you have to increase the Kbps to take advantage of the extra frames without loosing quality increasing the size of the movie. Are those 5 extra frames worth it? I know its only like £1.50p to upgrade but its an hour and a half per DVD to encode?

If its a great improvement im there :)

Yep - a great improvement!!!!

It just flows now!! You can get it up to 18-20fps as well...

is 20fps dodgy, as in it somtimes doesnt work or is it solid ? Id love to get 20fps but dont want to have load of movies crap out on me after spendging that time ripping ?

It's too early to say if running higher than 15fps @133mhz is going to be solid.Need to test a lot more.I have done some tests on clips at 16-20fps @133mhz and a couple of them have proved positive. If you resize to 320x176(or smaller) rather than 320x240 you have an improved chance of running the fps higher.Your chances also improve if you keep the audio bitrate lower. It's encouraging and so far I am pleased with GP Cinema.Even if it turns out that only 15fps is viable@133, I think the difference is very noticeable.

It's definetly a lot smoother, and I cranked the bitdepth up and improved the picture and sound into the bargain. the clip of LOTR I put on there now runs at 12 (decimate by 2) as opposed to moviepark's 8 (decimate by 3) -easily noticable. If I clocked it (which I won't) I could get away with not decimating at all. Also, some people have claimed it's hitting 19fps at 133, how do you know it isn't dropping frames? is there a FPS counter? I hope they are right though..

Hello Jim,

i found your reencoding guides using virtual dub with either divx 4.12 or xvid to be quite invaluable... only... there seem to be a some missing screen grabs. I don't know how critical they are - i managed to follow the divx guide without the missing image - but the xvid guide has a significant number missing.

Any possiblility you could check the HTML and reinstate any orphaned images?

thanx

Thanks shaddupayourface.

I've had intermittent problems with the original host for my web pages.

This is a different link from the one currently in my sig.Give it a try:

http://www.waystation.mcmail.com/xvid.html

If you were using the above link when you had problems, try the link in my sig.
I've checked both links just now and the image links seem to be ok on both at the moment.

Let me know if your still failing to see the images and I'll look into this deeper.

Hi there!
Just encoded my First ever DivX movie for the GP32, its an episode of the The Simpsons (beyond the blunderdome) off one of my Simpsons DVD's,

Play Time 0:21:34
227 kbit/sec

320x240 13 Frame
195kbit/sec

11025 Hz Stereo
32kbit/sec

Nice!

I used SmartRipper to Rip the VOB files off the DVD, then FlaskMPEG to compress it, then used VirtualDub to finish it off, changing frame rate and whatnot
works like a deam with GP Cinemar, well worth the money, highly reccomend it to anyone!

Anyone who wants any help with Encoding DivX movies for the GP32, just ask me, i might even make a guide for n00b's

10 fps at a much lower kbps(i think around 90) and with lower quality sound will give you a 10mb per episode Simpsons that is of very good quality. i think you only need more than 10fps ifs its a movie and even then 10fps is still good.

Sorry i cant give you exact settings but im away from my PC at the mo.

Cheers mate, i'll try that in a min, its pretty good quality at the moment, but id like to fit at least 2 episodes on this crappy 64meg SMC as well as some Emu's and roms, going on a 2 hour bus trip tomorrow, need the entertainment

I got some anime eps down to 10MB with 8fps and a bitrate of 115. Looks very good.
But I am still using the old MoviePark

For the Video try
90 - 100 KBPS
Max Key Frame interval 400 - 500
Max Quantisizer 30
Min Quantisizer 15

Audio
Audio Conversion > Sampling at 11025
Audio Compression 32kbps/11025 stereo 4kbps

In vdub 4 should give you around 10 meg for 25-30 mins cartoons. The sound is fine (i always use headphones for films as the speakers are a bit shoddy)
I wouldnt recormend this for movies but it works great for simpson/familyguy/futureama/etc episodes
