Truth is, the PSP doesn't have one single innovation in the handheld-world. It's just a shrunken version of a crossbreed between PSX and PS2. The DS at least has a touch-screen (as useful/useless as that may be).
Web browser, analog stick, UMD...

I surely prefer the DS, but the PSP has its strong points.

Web browser? It's been done before (GBA; more of a proof of concept, but still it's been done). Analog stick? The stick on the GP32 is roughly the same thing. UMD? Tiny little discs that use up the battery? Well, portable playstation aside, I may give you that one, though it's more of a detractor.

If you're going to go that far I could say that the DS isn't innovative in its touchscreen because the Game.Com had one.. or even the Zod, for that matter.

DaveC would disagree with that one. :p

Yes, huge capacity media on a handheld--never been done before.

guys lets drop this before it becomes a gay argument
It'll only be an argument if you let it become one. So far no one has argued.

a SINGLE N64 game and not having any others suggests to me there are problems that make that comparison unjustified
I compared it to an N64 because of its graphical ability, not its potential library. It has the graphical ability of very good-looking N64 games, just like I would compare the PSP's graphics to really good-looking PSX games or 1st-gen PS2 games. I don't know how you saw otherwise.

The PS3 Uses Blu Ray disks... maybe it's to curb all that ramptent piracy
Blu-ray PC drives are already available in Japan. It will not curb piracy any more than CD -> DVD did.

Well first. I wasnt refering only to you, you arnt the only one to ever compare it to an N64, and as for Blu-Ray of course japan has drives for it, how else is it ever going to become a standard? But what I'm getting at is that they arnt yet at a level where the common person is going to hope out the the nearest Radio Shack and pick up a 100 pack of B-Rrs, and even if he could they disks are likely to have a much more agressive form of copy protection.

I think Leave luck to heaven know what thay are doing making the new sp. They have made little mistakes in the past. The only one I can think of is giving a walkman company called Tokyo Telecommunications Engineering Co. the idea to make the PlayStation.

And the Virtual Boy. NEVER forget the Virtual Boy.

holy crap this thread took off and I never even saw it!

Ah well, I am seriously considering buying one of these new backlit SP's.

Of all my handheld systems I think the SP is the closest to my heart, it was definatetly the one I was the most excited about, and the one I have played the most, and taken with me the most thanks to it being the very definition of portable.

Yeah the DS screen looks great but I hate that GBA games are 'shrunken' on the DS screen due to it's higher resolution. But after playing DS/GP32/PSP, I find it VERY hard to play games on my regular old SP anymore. The micro, while cool looking as a gimmick, and trust me I WANT one, but yeah the screen is just TOO tiny for me.

So I might sell my SP and buy a backlit SP. I can put up with a little blurring... hell if I can enjoy my PSP I can put up with a little blur :D

But what's this about not being able to turn the backlight off?!?!?!? When I looked at the box it had the same little light button top center like a regular SP.

That's what I'm thinking of doing. Since playing games on the DS the old SP screen really looks poor in comparison. I know I can play my GBA games on the DS instead but I actually much prefer the SP's design and it's easier to tuck away in my bag to take along to work with me.
When are these available in the UK?

What the Hell is Nintendo doing???? I mean Whos gonna pay $90 or what ever it is for a GBA when the Freaking DS is only about $20 - $30 more !!!! :p
it's because they're NINTENDO

Oh, a Sony whore ...

The only people allowed to make consoles should be atari, sega, nintendo and Game Park. ;)

A console should be a console, not a cd player, dvd player or pc.

Yeah! Damn Sony and Microsoft for allowing you to play discs other than games on their systems! They should be locked so the only thing you can play is games, thus forcing you to buy other shit. You know, the fact that the PS2 also plays DVDs is one of the reasons I got it in the first place. My parents wanted to buy this stupid expensive DVD player/VCR, and I told them about the PS2. They ended up buying the PS2 and a cheap VCR for at least 100 bucks less... But hey, that's a bad thing. I don't like to save money. I also just love it when a company goes out of their way to make it inconvenient for me to do something that I should be able to do.

But wait a minute... The GP32 can also play music and movies... so why is it okay for their game system to do it if it's not for Sony or Microsoft? Hmm... I smell hipocracy and idiocy...

No, that was a good idea because it kicked Nintendo off of their stupid fuckin throne where they no longer belonged.
