Emulators on a Korean Site

Give the guy a break. He only joined this forum a few days ago and obviously didn't know about the emulators that got leaked a while ago. As soon as he was told he removed the links.

Leaks are inevitable instead of crying about it when it happens ignore it and deal with it like all others devs and coders do.

You dont see id flaming some guy posting Doom 3 alpha links on the internet and crying no one respects their work, because it happens. You dont see them threatening to abondon their work cause theres plenty of other people ready to do the same work.

I have total respect for the people that code and develop but 0 respect for those that whinge when "private" (handed out to anyone on irc) betas get posted on webpages.

I now await my flaming about how little i know about the subject blah blah blah.

I think the Korean bloke should be flamed alright. But not those who are new to the
scene and got hold of it by accident.

Calm down, he didn't know the emulators were leaked... Besides, you're hurting the GP32 dev community by having closed sourced private betas...

Share the wealth and the constructive criticism to improve your programs! Open source! (Linux is opensourced, and people have made it pwn the shit out of windows)

Usually I don't like private betas, but I can understand why emu authors want to wait until they've got the speed and stability people demand. People in the homebrew world understand that early versions of software is full of bugs, but unfortunatly many people in the emu world don't have that 'oh well, I'll just wait for these bugs to be removed' attitude and instead like to throw childish little tantrums (u5UalLy 1Nv0lV1ng L0t5 0f s4d m3s5age5 l1kE tH15). It's the whole attitude of those people which is stopping many coders (myself included) from even bothering to write an emu.

I respect anyone who does anything for the GP32 Community - but was that really called for? He didnt know.

what would flaming the korean guy do? he might not no at all. first of all the only person with private betas should be the dev'rs who make em and if anyone is going to be flamed.

it should be the people that were "intrusted" the private betas. otherwise how would they have gotten out??

ThunderZ, does it mean that you're still working on the NeoGeo Pocket Emu? I certainly hope so as it's something I've been looking forward to for a long time!!

Hopefully this won't have put you off the release....

Any one who runs a GP board is obviously not new to the scene. He would know tthe uproar the original leak caused, and should have removed the link from his board. To be honest I don't believe in 'flaming' i'm not 12, a poilte request not to do it again in future would probably surfice.

Also, woogal, when you talk about people throwing tantrums waiting for an emu, does that give a person writing an emu the right to throw a tantrum? :). (which is what i'd say thunderZ just did). I respect his skills as a coder, but that sort of attitude is just childish. My advise to you thunder, is only give out private Beta's to your closest associates.

A private beta tries to allow the programmer what the name suggests - privacy. ThunderZ has his reasons for wanting privacy. It doesn't even mean he won't release his source code at some point, it just means he wants to code in peace for the moment.

I can't really fathom exactly what ThunderZ has experienced, as I have never written an emulator for something like the GP32. Yet, I can guess what he is going through. ThunderZ wishes to code like a rabid dog trying to get his/her emulator complete enough to his own satisfaction. They are his own personal projects, so its no wonder he wants them up to his own standards first. People stalking him on message boards and email bombing him with questions, "new features to add", etc. are only a distraction, because at this early in the development stage, it's mostly about functionality and not about compatibility. Therefore, its not even "beta testing", its more like "alpha testing" at best.

In short - Don't ask for a public beta. ThunderZ obviously has his/her reasons. He's/she's the great emu author. Let him code in peace.

The fact is the person who downloaded it didn't know it was a private beta, so thunder coming on here ranting didn't do much good. How was someone new to the scene meant to magicaly know a file at a GP site was a leaked beta, months after all the the threads talking about it had ended?. Blame the thief, not the unwitting reciever. The fault lies with the original person who leaked it, and the person who allowed it on their board. And no one on this thread has asked for a private beta, it's something that's highly discouraged on this board, if you'd read the whole thread, you'd know that.

Whoa... This topic is getting hot. AS for the chap talking about ID... Well did you see what they said to all site and publishers who weere going to publish theose pics of Quake 4....!

Everyone is entitled to have there work proteted.. On that note... Read one of my old posts.. HOW did that site get Thunder Z's emu in the first place unless one of his friends were untrustworthy..!

First off, for all of you pming me and emailing me for the links. I am not giving it out. Second, I was told by someone not to run the GBA one because it 166 mhz. Also I am sorry for all the trouble I caused, and I was just trying to do something good for the community. From now on when I find something on a Korean site I will ask the admins, or mods from this forum if it is appropriate to post. Also Thunderz I am not so to say stupid, it was more of ignorance of the emulation scene on my part and it was removed quickly and I was in the thread the whole time and only Azure, and that dude that told me to remove the link and someone else saw it.

Really now, this is getting blown way out of proportion. Alot of the files on Korean sites are old news to us, and clearly they are unable to heed the authors warnings not to use his betas if they do get ahold of them somehow. I'm sure they and everyone here understands the risk they are taking if they use software that is incomplete, so if they insist on getting their hands on closed betas and what not, just ignore their comments like you do with warez people and software pirates. It's not like you are working at NSA, remember who you are doing all the work for (the community) and realize that most of us have plenty of respect for your wishes concerning your personal projects.

No matter what line of work you are in when people are exited about something you are doing or making you will get asked questions and hassled. Most people dont mind this or in fact enjoy it and is the reason they code in the first place, to see people enjoying their work and/or adding critism about it.

As for e-mail bombing thats always been the lamest excuse ive been hearing. How hard is it to set up an e-mail account on hotmail or yahoo specifically for questions bug reportings and other general spam that doesnt interfere with your normal e-mail. First thing you ever learn about the internet is never give you e-mail to people you dont know or via any form that doesnt have an agreement to keep it private. As for message board pm spamming he/she will get that anyway even if there has been a leak or not because people will still be asking questions about the project.

The only thing to sympathise with was if any of the source code was made available without the authors permission, cause this can lead to more serious discretions like plagiarism and benefitting form someone elses hard work.

actually I think the gba emu runs at 150mhz cuz it says gpba150.fxe, and someone should shut down those downloads if it bothers the authors. If the author doesn't want it out then everyone should see why they get mad since they are doing this all for free. Wait a while or contact the author.

The Korean board mods may not have known it was a private beta. After all, most Koreans don't speak or read english, so they wouldn't be following this or other english boards. If someone on that board just happened to find a NGPC emu on one of the file sharing services (it is on at least oneof them), how would they know it wasn't meant for distribution?

That program loading message in free launcher could say "WARNING! Every time you use this device it gives an orphan ass-cancer" but I'd never know, because I don't speak Korean.

yeahhh, but it's just an orphan, and no one really cares about them anyway (obviously!)

so bring on the ass cancer, I say.
