*EDIT*

i've not got an s-video port on my t.v but i've got one on my skybox and my dvd players if this makes any difference.

Do you have the drivers installed for your video card?

You should be just able to hook it up to your TV with a cable and right click on the desktop and mess with the display settings.

My old geforceII does this with the nVidia app that came with it.

There was a svhs-to-rca connector with my 9600. You need one of those. Once connected, the PC should notice the tv as another display. Then you just need to set it up. I had mine on "theater" mode, displays the whole monitor image duplicated on tv. And if DirectX-surface is displayed, it can be set to show only that. An application, say, a mediaplayer, shows up as/in a window on you desktop, it uses the whole tv.

That's um, male lead? Mine is the opposite.

You should be able to buy a standard SVideo cable and plug that from the SVideo Out of your video card to the SVideo in on your TV. Don't forget about the audio too, so a stereo jack to Phono cable is what you might need for the audio.

A lot of SCART sockets also have extra functions such as SVideo, RGB as well as Composite Video. Check your TV manual for what the SCARTS on the back do. If one does SVideo, you can get a little adapter to convert SVideo to Scart.

Once you have connected everything up, reboot your PC so the video card detects the TV, you should then be able to play with the settings in the video control panel . I would also advise you to update the Radeon drivers, I think they are called Catalyst Series. The Catalyst drivers will also be able to let you set up the Theatre mode and over scan for watching DVD or video playback too!

On a little note on signal quality, if you use one of them SVideo to Phono plug adapters mentioned above, you will get a reduction in signal quality. The best quality you can get would be through RGB, the next best is SVideo, then Composite Video and the worst is UHF. So try using SVideo and not Composite. It will make a heck of a difference believe me. Mind you, if you're just watching videos on the TV from the PC, then composite will be okay.

If you want any more info, just give me a shout :)

i managed to sort it last night, there was a connector inside my box for the gfx card i just plugged the the svideo into that and then into the side of my t.v and it worked. then i got a L/R to phono from my pc to my tv and the sound worked too. sucks for browsing but thats not really what i wanted it for. picture is mint for watching my films so thats saved me a few weeks in converting all the simpsons to dvd lol

cheers for all your help guys

I used to do this all the time with my card before I bought an AVI player. Quality was quite passable too. I must admit that since having the Avi player I wouldn't go back to the PC :) Mainly because of the hassle of leads trailing about and setting it up each time.
