I know that this won't work, but it is SO close to making a compact flash card adapter for the GP32. It's called Snap Memory, and it connects to a Japanese cell phone to provide extra memory.....if only for Korean cell phones. :( Maybe someone could mod the plug on it, but again, we need software, plus it is a pretty expensive item just for experimentation, about $60.

SMCs are so cheap, I recently paid 21Euros for a 128 Card. Why do you want compact flash?

Well, there's really 2 reasons people want CF... perhaps 3, but I doubt the 3rd one's so applicable.

1) Full talkie ScummVM games - atm the talkie files are too big, and whilst recognised, won't fit. Hopefully a newer ver of ScummVM will add .mp3 support which would give us this anyway, but CF is an alternative.

2) Better quality movies and more of them on a single card - at the moment you can get 1 good quality movie on (and a few episodes of the simpsons or something) or a couple of lower quality (usually very watchable) on. CF = more storage = more movies.

3) More MP3s - less likely, but there we go. Only applicable for people who use the mp3 abilities of the system much.

I'm an audiophile, but I can't use my mp3s on the GP32. Most of my mp3s are encoded with LAME in VBR (Variable Bit Rate). GP32 appearantly does recognize or support VBR. :( Oh well, there goes my hopes or using it as an mp3 player in my car.

never thought about that cf cards need more battery power for read and write processes.

so if u watch a movie or listen to mp3s your batterys wont hold so long.

I was just saying compact flash because they get up to at least a gig of storage, whereas smartmedia only gets to 128MB?

yes. more space would be really nice! I thought about compact flash as a better medium too.

just wanted to bring the power issue into the discussion. because it sounds really nice to have more space and stuuf, but there are some negative points too.

i just had an idea. if this thingy (the card reader/writer) that u plug in ur gp would have some additional battarys, then there would be absolute NO problem.
nice idea hmm?

I have to say that power-wise and extra battery-wise, a third one might have been a good idea. If only because whilst 4 is a few too many, 3 is manageable. And it would have increased battery life already by a few hours (3 maybe - which is pretty significant). Even with CF an extra battery would probably up the lifetime. A bit.

But they went for 2 which is pretty much the accepted norm these days...

Do you think there could be a way to mod one of those USB drives to work with the GP32. It has a USB port, so maybe it could be done (though I doubt it). It would be neat though, I've seen those with as much as a gig of storage.

Conversion?

If you were a true audiophile, you would be 100% against MP3s in any shape or form
