Two words for you doubters and haters and know-it-alls who don't know it all:

VIEWTIFUL MUTHA F'ING JOE!!!! (the mutha and f'ing don't count towards the two words :p )

I dont' hang around these forums much anymore so don't even know if there are those who still say the DS can't do it's N64 style full polygon graphics on both screens, so forgive me if this argument is long since dead.

But Viewtiful Joe is the real deal, full polygon graphics running simultaneously on both screens and at a good frame rate at that. So it CAN be done.

Thank you, and good night :D

<cue flames from anti corporate zealots and fanboi accusations as seem to be the done thing>

Anyway, got some screenshots? Sounds interesting. <takes cover>

no fanboi here, most people know me I used to be around all the time, and those people know I owe no allegiance to Nintendo or anybody really. But I was a firm believer from the get-go that the DS *COULD* do 3d on both screens at once but most people seemed to be convinced that it could NOT.

i don't have screenshots but I'm sure you can find plenty at IGN or Gamespot.

Well, the DS does have a geometry processor and floating point hardware, so it shouldn't be too difficult really :)

umm......full 3D, eh? Debating if it can do it, eh? I kinda uhh...figured out that it can do 3D when I saw the first screens, kid....pop in Mario 64 DS....looks...uhh....3D to me!

Jesus, please bless poor bast's soul...

That it can do 3D is not the point. The point is that the spec for the DS states that it can only do 3D on one screen at a time. Viewtiful Joe has cleverly got 3D happening on both screens at the same time.

My guess is that it's doing every odd frame to the other screen, or something. I suppose it's also possible they could be doing some render-to-texture thing, but that would drop the framerate and suck up too much memory.

The IGN article does mention that it runs at 30fps, and that the resolution is lower than other 3D games on the DS, so it quite possible that they are alternating the 3D from one screen to the other.

no dude, that wasn't my point. My point was that a lot of people were saying that it couldn't do full 3d on BOTH screens at the same time. Until now, most games only had full 3d polygon graphics running on one screen or the other at once, or limited 3d with very simple graphics like in Feel the Magic.

whether it's 30fps or low resolution I could tell you, having played the game I say it looks pretty good and is comparable to other 3d DS games, such as Mario 64 DS. And there is no 'gap' or noticeable difference in quality of the graphics on the top or bottom screen. I thought the game looked good and ran smoothly, and it's a fun game to boot :D

And no, I haven't lost interest in my GP by any means :D

Umm... look at the Metroid demo that comes with the DS. At the start, you get a 3D shot of Samus which is spread over both screens. Then it zooms in and the top half spins the opposite way to the bottom half, but that's not my point.

CG

So don't have a mass debate about it ;)
