The Hardware Issues....

Hi Guys,
I just wanted to create a thread listing ONLY hardware issues that CAN'T be fixed by firmware updates (If there are any) So that all the new people could have a clear understanding of the state of the GP2X. Rather than create threads everywhere......

Thanks All.

It is not clear if the problem of the screen divided into two half of different contrast is a hardware issue, or if it can be solved by FW.

I also have a dark spot on my screen that grows and distorts if I 'squish' the console a bit: I hope it is due to some pressure on the LCD caused by 'too tight' assembly'; I hope that loosening the back screws will help to solve this.

Any other one has this screen 'dark spot' (if it's there is more visible if you tilt the console a bit while looking at it) ?

although I suspect that GPH may be telling fibs about some things that can be fixed by firmware, I believe the only problems confirmed to be purely HW is the joystick not recognising some directions but that's fixable with some fiddling

Well you have the mono sound from the speakers which seem to be verified by Evildragon. Could be an easy fix though, but you'd have to open up your unit.

I like developing and I can solder, but I am not up for opening the unit. If these aren't fixable by firmware. I think I am going to have to cancel the unit.... :( I want to develope and I am not afraid of bugs, but the LCD and speakers freaks me out. Damn..... :S

The LCD is beautiful on both my GP2X, A lot better than the GP32 FLU. The Speakers have yet to be confirmed.

I've taken the time to look closely at the hi-res photos Evildragon has uploaded on the GP2X file archive.

Regarding the 'dark spot', it does seem, looking at the photo of the front of the circuit board of the console, that the spot does correspond to a big solder blob on the lower right corner of the blak squares placed in the middle (the CPU covered with some kind of rubber).

Perhaps GP2Xs with this problem has been incorrectly assembled (the rubber is folded or the circuit ribbon that goes to the LCD is misplaced) and the back of the case does pressure too much in that point to the LCD screen creating the 'dark spot'.

If this is true, the problem should be solved by disassembling and reassembling the console (fairly easy).

What do yo think ?
