Oooo, Ahhh,[game] Is Being Ported! I Don't Give A

I don't care much for the ports eather, but it's nice to see that they work :) You should also know that quake will most likely look quite horrible on your 17" LCD since it's res is the native one of the gp2x that will get stretched to death on your great big screen, blurr on.

Playing on 320*240 a game which res is 320*240 or lower(as for emulated consoles) on a rather small screen(allthough 3,5" are great for a handheld) looks much more enjoyable then spread across a screen whose native res is 1280*1024 or more ;)
Actually even the first release of quake was able to scale its resolution all the way up to 2560x1600 if your monitor and GPU supports it, possibly even higher. It was quite a unique feature when the game was launched.

Talk about disrespect for developers. It's sad that some people feel the need to take out their frustrations on hard working members of this community.

I think one thing this chap is forgetting; is sometimes ports add something totally new. One example I saw was a Doom for Windows, that added TCP/IP support.

I've still got some some Duke Nukem 3D maps that I made years ago, if a port gets made for the game park I'd love to release them to finally see what people think!

sure it's great that Quake I, II, Doom, Duke3d is being ported to the gp2x.

but am I the only one that don't give a damn about it?

hell, I played thoes games almost 10 years ago already.
...

I never played Quake 1 and 2 before...
My first Quake was Q3

Ah and why you tell usw this? Just go back into your hole...

ohh and you were expecting some one to port a more recent game, say half-life 2 instead?

Nah, I think he wonders why time-travelling Nepalese haven't gotten him QuakeVI: Radioactivity Powered Edition running yet.

and in NO WAY is the 3.5" screen and controls gonna be as fun as on my 17" LCD with a mouse/keyboard and full speaker sound that runs MUCH faster and smoother.

I couldn't care less about running a crappily slower version on a mini screen. as it's an old game that I've played so many time already.

1337 grafix and uber 3d aren't the only things out there... I know some 2D games that pwn their 3d equivalents.... and retro owns all.

As for these old games, being ABLE to do it is neat in its own right, its called nostalgia.

To me it's not more of playing old games again but playing old games on the go. Now you don't have to be in front of your computer or tv to play classic games.

The gp2x is something you can bring outside.

So I'm just thinking, how well does a fps like Quake 1\2 play on the gp2x with the new added controls.

whoooa. I didn't expect such a outlash

or did I mean to sound like a Arse.

anyway. full respect to the authors that ports these games and good for you guys that never played the original. as I personally can't program anything better than the "hello world" program.

was thinking that it's more beneficial to focus energy on emus that can play more than one game.

Which is something that non-devs who like freebies take for granted. These devs are doing this because they want to, because they enjoy it. It might be more beneficial to YOU if they all focused on emulators and neglected the single-game ports, but it's MORE beneficial to have them spending their time doing something they enjoy doing with their spare time instead of fucking around with something they don't really care about. If, for example, woogal is enjoying the challenge of porting Quake to the GP2X and seeing how much performance he can squeeze out of it, who are you to say "drop that shit and make me a snes emu, STAT"?

Besides, I'm looking forward to the Quake and Duke3D ports. That's more things to do when I'm on the crapper or bored at work.

geniv, I understand where your coming from. But I guess developers want to work on projects that they want to work on. We are entitled to an opinion. But I don't understand why games like Elite, Rick Dangerous, Mortal Kombat, Another World etc were spent much time and energy in, but thats not our decision to make. Obviously some of the games mentioned above are open source and developers I guess love the challenge of porting a game to work on the GP32 without any form of emulation.

I was just walking into work, down the corridor to find this fella stood in front of me....

This community sucks. Your comments are absolutely stupid. geniv's post wasn't exactly respectful but it also does not justify an outbreak like this.
A solution for his problem:
1. You can't have played all the games you can run on emulators. (and lots of emulators are already being developed if you didn't notice... ;) )
2. There are a few (somewhat) original puzzle games already, more is coming but original work takes more time than a quick port.
3. Commercial games are also coming but they take even more time so you have to be a little patient.
