I wanted to read whatever it was that Codeninja had written. I was supposed to have my GP2X picked up as part of the recall yesterday. No one ended up coming by, so it sits on my desk at work in its box. It would be kind of nice to know if they were going to replace the unit or simply fix my unit. I'm more concerned about the headphone jack getting repaired than any problems with the LCD scren. I'm also curious about how much GPH knows about the parts that they are putting into the units if they have to rely on ED to send them accurate LCD settings (and those settings were only found because of a third party application). It all seems a little strange to me at this point.

One weird thing I noticed lately is that when I insert an SD card when the unit is on I can see the SD card pushing up on the back of the LCD. It's really only noticeable when the unit is on. It seems that things are pretty tight inside the case.

Have you seen the thread on how there are three layers of rubber squares stacked on top of the cpu?

The claim is that if you remove the top one it no longer presses on the back of the screen, causing the lcd to mess up.

I think that is what is making your SD card mess up the LCD.

On the upside, if there is room for 2 1/2 layers of rubber, I think there should be enough room for a heatsink when overclocking becomes necessary.

Whenever I try to post something in news section, it takes upto 12hours to show up. No idea what's going on. Anyway, the people in Korea who received the unit seem happy with updates. They reported brighter and better LCD display and even joystick input was improved. Some rumor said that GPH replaced the board itself, although it's unverifiable.

That's very good news indeed. Hopefully I can just get someone to pick my unit up on Monday.

Thanks Nubie! I will look into that if it is still a problem when I get my unit back.

Yes the first revision boards crumble when you look at them :)
No seriously, lets not make a problem out of something which isn't one?
I mean if our gp2x's work great despite having the ill liked "self bricking v0.01" firmware update, it's still good eh?
....still dreading the day when I shall recieve mine, turn it on for the first time with a brand new empty fat32 formatted sd card..waiting....it will say "Updating firmware" and then turn off <_<

So the boards are completely new? Is that what you mean codeninja? Are they different from first editions?

All he said was that there was an unverifiable rumour that the boards were replaced. We don't need to go spreading those rumours until they have been confirmed.

Maybe, I should NOT mention about anything that's a rumor. Yes, it's just a rumor that boards are replaced. So, please do not start a thread asking for board replacement; you're making fool of yourself. There is another news. People who did the recall are receiving TV-OUT cables (free from GPH as a sorry gift, if you remember old GPH announcement back in November). So, we'll hear more about them sooner or later.

Totally unrelated, but today I noticed that my GP2x LCD started to flicker when I move joystick up and down. Funnier thing is that after playing DrMD, that symptom went away...

[edit] I added NOT where it should be.

Holy fucking shit people. Never wanted to start rumors about new boards being put in, because I could careless if they are new or not. I dont have my GP2X yet, so im not worried. I was just asking some questions.

Also, its pretty awesome of GPH to be giving out some TV-Out cables.

Tone it down. That was preemptive. Rumours get started and spread so quickly around here that it's better if they aren't even started.

Every post in News forum has to be approved. You won't belive how much crap people post in NEWS sections :) Anyway, with every post we got notification on emails so we know what and when to approve. Of course it takes sometime few hours, you know, we have something called 'real life' and sometimes our bodies demand something, what we call here in Poland 'sleep' ;) Don't know how about ED :) but I'm not glued to the chair in front of my monitor ;) so I hope you'll excuse us that small delay :)

 @ the kitty

Does this mean perhaps that they have shipped out the cables to distributers?

* anticipates *

SWEEEEEET!!!!

A TV cable, and they fixed the audio ends too :D :D :D :D

Awesome!!!!!

I should be getting mine soon!!

Crap, I just remembered I am sitting (metaphorically) on a brick over here, I will have to send it back to be flashed anyway.

BTW if you paid attention to the connectors, TV-OUT cable is very short and have wrong connectors so that you have to buy a separate extenders to use them. For example, you won't be able to connect the audio to your TV because the connector is female!

because it's designed to be used with a male-female extention cable?
