I've been following the readme, and this guide here:
http://newbie.gp32x.de/gp32/mame.htm

my problem is that clrmame tends to output my named files as 54KB zipfiles. I *THINK* my problem comes in when I import my clrmame.dat from the mamegp2x archive and I get this when I dblclick on it or hit load/update:

It's not addressed in the guide. Or maybe my problem comes from having unregistered winrar associated with zip archives (not likely). More likely it feels like a version difference between the datfile and the clrmame.

has anybody had the 54KB zipped rom problem and gotten through it?

oddly a handful of roms come out the correct size, and of those, 3 play correctly. (very correctly) Could this also be a rom source issue? (I grabbed the first ~200 that I could find on usenet)

What you need to do is set up your default directories for your files. Pick the default button. The setup screen should pop up. If not, then click the setup button. You at least want to add in your Rom-path which should be where your final, complete set will be kept. You also want an Add-path which is where you'll download new rom files to. These should be different folders. Put all of the rom files from usenet into your add-path folder.

Since most of the files you'll get from Usenet will be for the newer version of Mame, a lot of the names won't match up to what you need for the GP2x. Because of this, you'll want to do a rebuild. On the rebuild screen check the boxes to use your default Rom-path and your default Add-path, and then let the rebuilder run. It'll scour every zip, file by file, matching stuff up by size and CRC32, and will find many files that the regular scan wouldn't.

I'm going through the same process today trying to rollback a .36 set and when finished, I come up with 52 bad sets out of 1012 or so.

Hope this helps,
Igboo

yeah, my roms turned out to be dodgy. Going to usenet just to find *anything* was a bad idea. now that I've fixed that problem, I have quite a few games running pretty darn well.

I can't wait for MVS support. Then I can step away from the open-source, but still stolen, feeling.
