they dont last for many charges (50 - 750) but they have amzing advantages. they have a voltage of 1.5 volts. they are environmentally safe. two to three times the capacity of nicad. cheaper than nicads. they come fully charged (for when you just happen to get them the same day as a gp2x). though a big problem is you need special chargers for them. so, whatda ya think
 
the problem is that alkaline's crystallize (makes them unusable/not use the full charge for some time) pretty fast on high current draws compared to nimh battery's, which makes them unusable for gp2x.
 
Yeah alkalines have a high internal resistance which makes them drop the voltage fast in high drain applications like this even though they still have energy left. They are good fow low drain apps like a clock or LED flashlight. NiMH have a better discharge for GP2X.
 
I've had some Rayovac rechargeable alkaline batteries before. After a few uses, they all started leaking after I charged them up.
