Mamegp2x

you need version 0.34 roms or use clrmame to convert some newer sets back to 0.34 standard. That's all.

Can any of you clever people out there in computer land please explain something to me:

Why do you need a specific version of a rom? If a rom is a rip of the arcade board, then surely they would be the same? Sorry for sounding a bit thick but I've always wondered.

I hope you can understand what I'm trying to ask.

that's a fair question. I think the answer is to do with the fact that the arcade 'ROM' isn't necessarily just one 'chunk' of stuff, but several sets of memory dumps from various address ranges, or from different chips, all kinds of bits and pieces, various extra bits of information like graphics sets, etc

and so the different versions are merely where the different bits and pieces have been 'arranged' differently into various files, and someone has to decide what filenames to use for these bits, and how to divide it up into meaninful sections. If you look at a mame rom zip file, you usually see several files inside that - now someone had to make up those filenames and decide what went into each. Also, with later versions of mame as drivers are updated with new features added, sometimes extra information is added to a rom, which was previously unused or unsupported, such as sound samples, or graphics palettes which were previously guessed at, etc. so it's more complicated than you'd first think.

edit: so anyway, getting back to the original question:
can someone help me with roms for this emulator,
no. it's against forum rules. for the obvious reason that you're asking for something that breaks copyright law. unless you're asking about some more info on how to use roms that you already own. in which case, you're gonna have to be more specific.
