It would be really cool if we could get a port of Rise of the Triad!! Is it possible? I'm new to this.

Peace
Murray

Yes it would be possible.

It uses the same type of engine that doom uses but it has more functions and wider area of expansion.

you should go to

www.classicgaming.com/rott

read the story its very interesting.

it could be ported and run full speed but i think it might have to be 133mhz for full speed and sound maybe less but id hope it be less.

A port of Rise of the Triad would indeed be great!

I haven't looked at the source yet but I heard that there is quite a bit of assembly in it.

Ok, I looked at the source and also the readme with it!

It seems that ROTT was going to be the sequel to WolfenStein3D untill a phonecall from ID Software changed everything.

What I understood from the readme is that the engine is a more advanced version of the WolfenStein3D engine.

In the readme are some reminesses from people who worked on the game. One of them said that the biggest mistake they ever made was not use the Build engine that was used for Duke Nukem3D and Shadow Warrior.

There are 5 parts of assembly in the source which need to be rewritten for a GP32 port in either ASM or C deppending on the speed loss.

I would like to port this game to the GP32. What I would like first is to actually get my GP32 and secondly the source to WolfenStein 3D for the GP32. I allready visited the site of the guy that did the port. It said he ported it from the Linux source of WolfenStein3D. I allready asked him for the source.

I would first like to do some research to assertain the difficulty and what I actually need to do for a port.

Well forget rewriting the x86 asm to arm asm

http://sdl-dc.sourceforge.net/

the sdl port of Rott and its for the dreamcast :D

this would make it alot easier to port and im sure a full c++ port for the pocket pc is available 2.

I'm at work right now so i can't look for it but thats a start they prob replaced the asm with c++ in the sdl version 2 ;)

and the gp32 has sdl already so why not try

Haaaa, SDL...... I see.

So this simply means replacing the dreamcast SDL module with the GP32 SDL module and sound and display allready work!

That would mean with a few simple handlings, I should get allready something running!

Would be cool to have another shoot-em-up on the GP32.
It would probably require some tweaking but it must be possible.

Suc6 with porting i'm looking forward to see it :D

No rise of the triad only has sound. No music :( i dont think the guy who ported it will bother to put music in it.

We should ask for the source code for it and see if someone can add music.

I'm sure the game is GPL so he has to release the gp32 sources for the port :)

But we should be nice and ask him if and when he is going to do it if not then we ask if we can try ourselfs.

I agree. It's a great game and it's a shame to not have the kickass soundtrack to go with :(
