Hi

I'm waiting for my gp2x to arrive in the mail, and filling my time by downloading everything i 'need' to get playing.

What I'd like to know, and I'm sure this will be riddled with personal opinion, is:-

For each system emulated on the gp2x, which is the best emulator...

Start your engines.

drmd, squidge snes, gameboy colour emu by k-teto, and the master system/game gear emu by efega (sp?) are what i have on my card right now. im looking into the lynx emu now

These are early days, so a lot of systems only have one emulator for them - hardly a showdown :p

Apart from the two dcgm mentioned, OutcaST (Atari ST) and Gp2xhandy (Atari Lynx) are both very good, as are Vice2x (Commodore 64 and others) and MAMEGP2x (old arcade machines).

If I had a month of solid typing I still couldn'y write enough good things about DrmDx, it is totally flawless! Squidges' latest SNES is also awesome and has fixed all of the problems that were keeping me from recommending it (speed, graphics glitches).

im useing frodo havent tryed Vice2x, also coz im only 18 i dont realy remember the c64 (i mean i remember a bit of dizzy the egg but thats about it) and thanx to the 2x i can catch up so to speak, :D smsplus2x is awsome (my first console was a master system, the latest gnuboy (version?) is great i can play tetris in bed again (lost my gba and tetris cart to my girlfriend lol).

game wise you carnt go wrong with a bit of quake or suduko or doom hope this is helpful

I had a dream last night where DrMDx was so slow as to be unplayable. I got really angry. (Come to think of it, I was angry just about all day yesterday.) Thankfully it was just a dream and DrMDx is THE emulator you need to get for the GP2X. GnGeo is pretty good (haven't tried it with sound yet, but without it it runs pretty good). There's a couple of emus I'm holding out on for another release or two, but progress on all of them so far has been very quick. SquidgeSNES comes immediately to mind. If he keeps going on it the way he has it'll be so close to the real thing that it will teleport you into the game world like in the horrible show Captain N.

You should also check out the Quake, Doom, Commander Keen, and Duke3D (if you have the right version) ports. They're also good ways to kill time.

haha! dreaming about the gp2x? i hope i don't get that addicted...

but yeah, gngeo2x is a very good neogeo emulator. it plays a lot of games at fullspeed without sound, and some fullspeed with sound if you overclock. it can be a pain to set up and stuff at times, but imho it's worth it.

This is going great, really pleased to get a good response on this matter. It would be great to know that, when there are multiple emulators for a platform, say, C64, which is better too.

Thanks everyone, keep em coming.

DrMDx (MegaDrive) is great if your after arcade type games, it runs everything i've tried as near perfect as you can get.

OutCast (Atari ST) is also great if your after computer type games. It currently in Alpha and it better that most fully released Emus.

GP2Xengine (PC Engine) is good has a few graphic problems but nothing too major.

sounds more like a nightmare to me...

also, it's great when you have a dream where something's really screwed up, and then you're pissy for a couple of hours and don't know why, and then you realize what you were dreaming about and say 'aaaaaah that's a relief'

For Commodore 64 games VICE seems to be more accurate than Frodo, in my opinion, although there are games that run better in one than in the other - it is best to have both at the moment and see which fares best with the games that you wish to run.

With regard to SNES games, SquidgeSNES is currently better than NK's SNES2X (which appears to have ceased development for the time being).

Last of all, NK's NES2X would appear to be the best of the three NES emulators at the present time, although it has not been updated in some time, and could end up being overtaken by Phamicom and FCE-Ultra GP2X relatively soon.

I hope that is useful to you. :)
