Hi
Looking to buy a GP32x and wondered how fast the Gameboy emulators run ? , as fast as a gameboy ?

thanks

Mike

GnuBoy is full speed. In fact, I think on some games it runs a little too fast.

As long as you're referring to the original gameboy or gameboy color, it runs just about everything perfectly. However, gameboy advance is quite different (not playable speeds :( )

mega drive (genesis) = full speed
snes (squidsnes) = almost full speed
atari = full speed
pc engine = full speed ( i GUESS)

Squidgesnes is nowhere near full speed, games like DK country running between 7-10 fps is nowhere near full speed,IMO. Squidgesnes needs alot more work before it can be regarded as "almost Full speed".

I mean no disrespect to squidge.

How come you put Atari in the list like that. Its a company unlike the others which are products.
Do you mean Atari 2600 VCS, Atari 800, Atari ST, or Atari Lynx?
Sorry as an ex-owner of 5 Ataris over the years this winds me up a little bit (just a little though).

lol, most of the games run ALMOST full speed at squid :p
excluding the FX chip games.. like DK

Well, full speed at FS2. There's a big difference between a program generating 20 or so fps, than 60, which is what most would consider to be 'full speed.'

SNES emulation is a huge tease ATM, it looks reeeeal good, and plays very well, but you're always looking for a few more FPS, better sound or transparencies .. case in point: 2020 Baseball ... this game plays very VERY near full-speed, but it's a bit off in the sound department.

i tried only few games, so this is my opinion..

Those two quotes, only 45 minutes apart are pretty hard to reconcile. For the record, both R-type and SMW run between 40-55 fps in gameplay with sound enabled and the unit overclocked to 260 mhz. I love squidgesnes as much of the next guy, but those are the fastest games I've seen on it and they are still not full speed unless you use frameskip. Are they playable? Absolutely. But, whether or not an emulator runs full speed isn't really a matter of opinion, and I think if someone is asking about speed in consideration of purchasing a GP2x, accuracy and honesty are the most important things. The more accurate answer would be that many games seem to run fullspeed with sound on at fs2.

Thanks for your comments , i am currently running gba roms on my xbox (and i have the original games), one of the problems with the gba is that the light is rubbish, hence me using the xbox. I am now looking for a compact console to play all type of games , sierra, lucas arts and so on......... and of course GBA stuff.

thanks Mike

PC Engine\Turbo Grafix16 works perfectly and as far as I know only one game doesn't work which is Military Madness
