Why?
That went right over your head.

That's ok, it was a pretty bad joke, but still.

@ the people who keep saying " how can anyone use IE" dont you f...ing realise is the most widely used IE out there.
I think he was talking to me. But my question was why do you still use IE if you have the capability and know-how to install something else? That was what I was asking. Are there some pages that don't work unless you use IE? The Everquest forums didn't work, or Everquest's site in general, but that's the only page I know of. And that can be fixed by adding the FireFox plug-in that lies to the site and says your using IE. So basically Sony just breaks the page because you aren't using IE, which is odd to say the least, why would they care what you're using? Why give into sites like this and keep using IE?

I hope this isn't off topic, I think it is because only IE is affected by this.

Thanx,
Stan

Yeah, my little brother was saying that, he uses Opera, but I think it's stupid that you even need it. Why would a web designer just break a site because you aren't using IE?

My friend does servers at the company he works for and they use this security companies software to get info from the stores, sales info etc., and you can only use IE. The FireFox plug-in fixes it, but I can see that the company only wants to support one browser for it's security, doesn't want to put up instruction on installing other browsers and such. The site doesn't just break however, just says it only supports IE. Just breaking the page without saying it's only broke because you aren't using IE is dishonest, it's like the site is saying 'Our site is fine, FireFox/Opera is broke' when in fact they aren't.

But Sony? Come on, their site has nothing special on it that Opera and FireFox can't do, why do they care? It doesn't affect security on their side if you're not using IE.

Thanx,
Stan

yea, IE is the most used web browser out there becasue there are people who dont know any better or dont care or are just too freaking stupid to change browsers, IE has been suffering a huge decline in use since firefox bwecame popular, i love firefox!

Or maybe because it is installed already some of us are too lazy to dick around with downloading and setting up more browsers. It is no big deal what is used. It is just a stupid browser who cares?

Wasn't there a memo or something from the FBI urging all FBI to stop using IE? I remember it from somewhere.

The reason you shouldn't use IE is the topic of this forum post, that's why you should stop using IE.

But yeah, no setup required for FireFox or Opera, just install, and they even import your bookmarks from IE.

Thanx,
Stan

Inivision Power Board I take it?

Seething with impotent rage. Why? Because you got handed a poor browser free with your OS and it got exploited? Because this site uses a pre-fab board which was exploited and then tripped your system up?
So now everyone here is to blame?

Settle down, install a firefox or something and enjoy surfing in reasonable security. No-one's pointing fingers, just passing on some advice. IE and windows are going to dissapear once people realise that MS are to blame for the gaping holes and start to look elsewhere.

My question is how did it happen? Someone must've exploited invision power board or something... otherwise, no one else has FTP access to the site or anything, right? This kinda makes me worry about my own site... (as in, is my site going to get something like this happening to it or not)

Anyway, I was very fortunate that I showed up when I did... the iframe site apparently 'closed' sometime before I came, because I was using IE to view this site. The thing that set the bells off for me was the fact that I kept hearing the click noise which indicates that IE was directed to another page. I kept hearing it repeatedly, with large intervals in between. So yeah, then I saw the status bar which said something about a .biz site, and instantly I checked the source to see the iframe. I was able to quickly exit out of IE and open Firefox after that. I suppose I have to use firefox to browse this site now. :p

Adblock is the best thing ever created, in terms of browsing, besides firefox. ^_^

And yeah, there's ALWAYS that ONE GUY out of every group which loves IE. :p I got a laugh out of that temper tantrum. :)

This forum looks compromised.

(90%) of WINDOWS SYSTEMS ON THE NET (Without firewalls, heavy duty anti-virus, paranoid security levels, NEVER !@#$%^ RUN @@#$%^~~! ANYTHING AS ADMIN! YOU TOO UNIXERS!)

are infected with something.

I hope this means the fourm does not get nuked.

Also if so; truely cunning psychological exploit, it even parsed the personal messages for keywords.

Even running Linux, FreeBSD, eventually somone will '0Wn' you.

Have LiveCD's and backups ready at all times. The Internet is a hostile place.

This forum is using a quite old version of Invision, its actually a beta version just before Invision started charging for use of the software. I have a licensed version on my site and I know that since the betas there have been a few software updates which in part fix these types of hacks.

The hack itself should be easily fixable for anyone who has access to the Admin CP, just need to Revert the templates back to their original code. Only problem is that until the software itself is updated there is nothing to stop the person doing the same hack again.

well, hando got a license now (actualy he got it donated by some nice guy) so he may update to the most recent version soon. (no idear how much work that would be)
