Just wondering if anybody got the same problem as me and can point me in the right direction, when i load the genesis emu, all i get is a flickering orange line in the centre of the screen (horazontal). no buttons do anything. i'm running on original firmware. ring a bell with anybody?. thanx in advance. ;)

You dont have any games in the GPMM--->Genesis folder. The orange line is the rom selector ;)

That's the rom select screen. You usually get a list of roms with a selector bar in orange (or is it green?) It flickers a bit. Anyways...make sure you're putting .SMD files in gp:\\GPMM\GENESIS ....

how come someone who can make a snes and megadrive emu can't make a file selector that doesn't glitch?? just seems funny as both emus do it, and i take it he must know what hes doing so whats the deal with that

Is it me, or does the menu speed and the flickering speed of the bar increase as you increase the clock speed?

Well this is cool !!! :)

I just tried sonic spinball !
& viewpoint' & mega bomberman :))
Genesis is alive 4 ever

I'd guess it's because it isn't important, so he can't be bothered. If you were building an emu, what would you concentrate on - speed and compatibility, or double buffering the rom selector :)

I suppose unlike Windows which reads the files once and stores them, the emus constantly refresh - Thus the flicker. (A bit like if you looked at a Windows folder and then kept pressing F5 really quickly. - Well, on an old/slow PC anyway!..)

The higher the clock-speed, the faster the refresh.

How come someone who just got something for free complains so much?

Quite a few people who post here dont seem to know the meaning of BETA...

Basically, the flickering shows that he's spent more time on the important part of the emu (i.e. the engine) than the cosmetic stuff. It will be done if he ever finishes the whole thing, but up till then, quit whinging! :p

Basically, it's a matter of priorities - file selector prettyness=low, Emu speed/compatibility=high. Sounds good to me!

whos moaning, its a question, quite a few people around here can't sence the tone of a message, stop assuming things and focus on what was actually typed not what u think was implied, thank you, can't believe even a mod was just waiting to pounce on that one, read it again, its a question nothing in that post is wrote as a complaint i don't personally care if it flickers, i just thought it was funny since it should be so easy for him to fix and hes overlooked it twise now

I doubt it re-reads the folder contents repeatedly. More than likely he just clears the screen and prints the roms once per frame, causing flickering.

Also, the speed of the selector, like everything else, is bound to increase if you jack up the clock speed! And therefore the flickering, as more frames are drawn per second.

Well, before whining around:
Just code a good file selector (like LJGP) including a database function, make a nice clean C-code so that it's easy to implement and I'm sure a lot of emulator coders will use it :)

Of course it's nice to have a nice gui, but I've never seen any emulator with a nice gui at first beta stage...
Oh, okay, most emulators of Rlyeh have, because he uses the same gui over and over and don't has to code a new one every time ;)
