hi there, i'm new..

i found out about this handheld jst today, and i am pretty impressed. since i am a lot on the road and write alot, i thought about other possibilities for using.. my questions:

1. is it possible to connect keyboards via USB?
2. and ofcourse, does (simple) write-software exist that can store my texts on sd-card?
(to be used together with a keayboard of course)

thanks!

Hi zzap.

1- Not for the moment (I mean, it is feasible, but it will need you to program or port a driver for it and build a Usb box/hub).
I think this will happen in the future but don't forget that this handled is for gaming purposes first.

2- I don't know if there's something for writing with a virtual keyboard, but if there is it will be a loooong way to type text.

If you want to type some text on the road, get a very small laptop or a pda with keyboard.

1- Yes, Qtopia, but I'm not sure if the version with USB support has been released yet.
2- Yes, Qtopia has an app for this.

Dell makes some nice small Laptops, or if you're really pressed for size (and liberal with cash,) you could go with the oqo.

Or you could get one of the old handheld computers with built-in keyboard, like a HP 620LX - these take CompactFlash cards for transfer.

Or maybe a Psion series 5, Revo or even a 7 if you have the cash.

...if you have the cash...
I think most of these devices are over-priced and only have a narrow application range, a thing where the GP2X has a better position because of it's great community and developers.
I agree the GP2X first use is for gaming/media, but I think it will get pretty interesting on the office side as well, considering you maybe could connect both an USB keyboard and the TV at the same time ;).
