Currently we have lots of excellent applications for the gp2x, lots of amazing developments and it has broken some major barriers but what do you think is missing on the gp2x? What killer app do you think the gp2x will benefit from the most?

There are a couple that i plan to have a go at sourcing, so i'm not saying what they are (sorry), but ascii paint would be fun (dunno if that has been ported from the gp32??), maybe some more programming stuff, like HTML editors??

Better menu (for its capability the current menu is shite)

Docking station/breakout box thing (didnt someone say GPH were working on one?)

In a list? Ok then,

Nes emu on a par with LJGP,
Decent SMS/GG emus full stop,
SmashGP,
KoF94 (or equivalent Mugenesque engine),
PCE emu as good as GPEngine (unlikely in the near future, I fear),
Good NGPC emulation (which is lacking pretty much everywhere),
A mass-produced breakout box,
GBA emulation (Though I'm not really holding out for that any time soon),
FFE (though that *won't* happen ever),
I dunno... maybe someone could take a look at Stratagus/Wargus and similar.

Otherwise, I'm not sure - we've got an awful lot very quickly. I think it's time to move onto the original game area, personally, and look forward to seeing Nazca or someone like him re-emerge hopefully relatively soon :).

If I ever get round to getting a dev environment working and find similar functions to the ones I used from Mirko's lib in SDL, then I'm quite happy to bring it across. I rather assumed no-one was using it though, tbh lol.

The one emulator that I am still waiting for is a playable GBA emulator. I want to be able to play some golden sun on my gp2x! That and the sierra emulators, so I can get some Kings Quest and Space Quest action going on the go.

I think you should anyway...its a fun idea, i'd have it!

also i'd like to see a utility showing the speeds of both processors (a bit like a benchmark prog) whilst doing certain tasks - if thats poss??

it just means that its a good help for budding programmers to see how well they are doing at pushing the entire capabilities of the 2X. And also on dual-core programming note...i hope we get to see some results of the 2XGL that Andrew?? is doing, cause I was thinking about how to get 3D engine-esq capabilities on the 2X and with the use of both processors it should be at least manageable...well thats my slant on it anyway....

Off the top of my head:
Hardware:
Breakout Box
Stick to D-Pad Replacement Kit
USB Wifi, Keyboard, Mouse, Gamepad support

Perfect Emulators for:
NeoGeo
SNES
NES
TG16

Better performance in:
ScummVM

Software:
100% Open Source Community Created Firmware – Features:
Booting from SD
Backlight Power Level Control
Faster Booting
Better Menu

Better Media player with support for more file types

Full speed with sound SNES.
Saving in GnGeo.
A funky palm top style firware with the ability to launch current 2X apps.
Full speed with sound Amiga.

my list would have been longer a week ago. and as nickspoon said i wouldn't consider the things it doesn't do well (yet) "missing". but the thing that i will be most excited about, should it happen, is good sms/gg emulation.

* Official release fast-booting firmware
* Official usb host support that nicely integrates things like networking (including wireless), keyboards, mass storage.
* Official or widely=adopted menu that is at least less idiotic (unreadable tiny text at the top? White text on barely-not-white background for finding files? asking me every single time if maybe now i want to look on the NAND for games? ick)
* H.264 video player (may not be possible)
* Continuing stream of fun, quirky homebrew games (no complaints there, i just want 1000 more)

a nicer GBA emulator would be really awesome...
But the thing I want most is squidge and reesy to hack away on that snes emulator! The developement is amazing... I can play chronotrigger almost fullspeed with fs2 right now and that makes me really happy.
Caught myself checking if something on the hack has been done today like 3 times ;-)

The GP2X needs a game that hasn´t been launched for any other platform and which is amazing enough to make all people worlwide cry for a unit.

I don´t know what game it is, though.

Make it. I'm sure we can make a game that can be just as successful as FF7 =)
