This post is pointless conjecture.
The Blu-Ray drive is a simple peice of hardware
...Okay.......

Anyway, what is the point of this argument? And whether ML have come ubder fire or not, they are more respected in the world of finance than you, I suspect. And certainly they are a major name etc....

That's all well and good, except for one problem.

This is technology we're talking about, not finance. Oops.

*sigh* I said this before..

Blu-Ray is not a propietary media; it was jointly developed by many companies through the Blu-Ray Disc Association.

If you need a license to be allowed to use it, it's not a standard, it's proprietary.

"Proprietary" != "One company."

"Proprietary" = !available for general use

God, you do go on, don't you. You must hate to loose an argument.

But, yes we were talking about 'figures'. You know, numbers that add up.

Just putting a dollar-sign in front of a number doesn't magically make it 'finance' and make ML have a clue what they're talking about. Those numbers have to COME from somewhere, and since they didn't come from Sony, they're suspect.
The numbers just don't hold up under critical thought, and appealing to authority doesn't change that.

But hey, suit yourself. If you guys think not beleiving everything you read is "paranoid delusion" pft... that's your loss. Gods know I don't lose anything by being put on Alpha's ignore list. I don't like conversing with people with a short between the headphones anyway. You're welcome to do the same.

I have some news for GeminiDomino: Sony lets slip the PS3's price.
Zing! I win.
:p
Yeah, you'd have to be pretty dumb not to know that the PS3 was going to be selling for around that amount. The PS3 cannot hope to sell for more than that, or else no one would buy it. Even I would buy an X360 if that were the case (which it won't be).

Uh, no you don't. I agreed with Iignotus that they couldn't price it much higher than that or the Xbox would eat thier lunch.

My argument was that the $900 total parts cost was overblown.

Yeah, I was confused by Hanz's post, personally. All I know for sure is that I've (probably) been right all along.

No matter how good it is, only the fanatics are going to spend that much on a console. Average consumers flocked to the ps2 because most were already starting to become interested in buying a DVD player. But Blueray.... average joe has no idea what that is yet. There are no Blueray disks in video rental stores.
Im sure the price will change by launch. It has to. Sony may do ok this generation, based on its existing fan base. If not for that, they would probably end up like 3DO.

Of course we'll have to wait until launch day to see what they do.

(sorry to get off topic)

You've got a point. If consoles are getting up to $400 now, they're just going to marginalize video gaming back into a niche.

Sony simply won't release a console at that price. It would be madness.
