Gp2x Break Out Box (finished Product)

Great work ! The design is not bad for a first attempt.
I'll be ready to order one soon :)
I hope devs will jump onto the possibilities of such a b-box.
Keyboards, mouse, Hard drives and many usb things.
I saw that you said "3XUSB" but I only can see one.
Perhaps you could think of a composite video out for those who (like me) doesn't have a
s-video compliant Tv set.
A J-tag port could also be a nice "plus".

Congratulations for this, techFreak !

What is exactly the use of this box ? It is useful for developers ? Will it permit to flash u-boot in case i brick my gp2x ? Is video on tv better with this than with the regular tv cable for gp2x ?

the most thing it will probably be used for is connecting USB devices, such as external hard drives, game controllers, etc.

2 USB conrollers ...1 dev interested in adding 2-player / controller support to an emulator...2 player games!

The current TV out cable doesn't allow you to access the other capabilities of the ext port on your gp2x. The "BOB" allows you access to all the functions both currently used, and those that will be used in the furture. :)

does that make since

You are right you can only see one USB port here. But the original product will have 3 USB ports.

Currently working on following for the final design:

* JTAG as standard.

* A break through cable to power up GP2X. No need additional PSU for GP2X.

* A dipswitch to select USB powered by GP2X or PSU.

Any comments are welcome.

this is mostly designed for when your GP2x is sat in front of the TV, not for portability, but as small as possible would be ideal.

i look forward to updates for this, but, I already have bought a TV out cable, would it not be possible to have an extra EXT port on the breakout box, where i can attack my tvout cable?

make it small.
We want to take our mp3-players with movies with us. A big box isn't portable.

Why not a smallest one that only have some of the features (only 1 Usb, Tv out + audio)
The more features you want , the bigger it will be.
For me, size doesn't matter (hum...). I prefer a bigger one with all the features.

@techFreak : A break through power cable and a dipswitch to select USB powered by GP2X or PSU are really cool ideas.

Once you add all that you'll have pretty much everything I wanted.

Don't forget that the GP2X is a controller too...

...hey now we can have "Handicap" games :p

If it had Jtag connection for unbricking and could be shown to support 2 usb joypad controllers for head to head Mame or other console action that would be awesome and a definite must have purchase.

Exactly what I need for away from home big screen proper controller arcade action. :D

We are designing the final board lay out. It will be done this week and next week final product will come out. For Europe TNT charges 18 Euro. I'm looking for a cheaper way.

Any bright ideas are well appreciated to make the product better.

Nicely done, if I didn't already have a mac mini hooked up to my tv, I'd definitely buy this.

Hey, I don't think this is so expensive, for something that has to travel from turkey to anywhere in europe ...

Very interesting product. Having a USB HD on the GP2x would be a killer!

Just have to get me a GP2X first :)

Regarding postage, why not look into sending it regular airmail? Sure to be a lot cheaper than using couriers.

if that happens you could actually use a GP2X to make a MAME machine. Weird.
